thought I should share FTM

I thought I should share this with everyone since I see many women buying these and they can actually become a disadvantage to your baby.

Background - this didn't come from my mom or friend or Google. This information came from an experienced child specialist who tracks pregnancies and babies growth and development for up to two years. She is a private nurse who comes to your house from pregnancy up.until the baby is two years. She has a wealth of knowledge about babies and baby development and so much more. She shared this with me and I thought I should share it with everyone here...

Do not buy your baby mittens

You are taking away their sense of touch at a time when they will be using it the most. They're eyesight is not good at the beginning and the rely upon it heavily. Touch for babies plays a huge part in development and you are essentially restricting that developmental curve by taking away that sense. They can touch things but they cannot feel them or grasp them in a way a hand without mittens can. Hands serve as navigators for babies even when it comes to breastfeeding they will press on the breast and essentially navigate your milk. Keep their nails cut so they don't scratch themselves too hard and cause bleeding but don't worry about the scratching too much, it is a baby and they need to learn.

Now don't misunderstand... Many mothers put mittens on their babies and their babies are smart and developed just fine. What she was saying is simply that babies need their hands and touch is an important sense at a young age and to not restrict it.

Just thought it was interesting and that I should share...
Take it.or leave it as you like... And I hope we all have wonderful babies!!

I wouldn't worry too much about using mittens or not. I used mittens for my son who kept scratching himself. In my opinion its more distressing to see them scratching their face and eyes. Its nice to keep them warm also as heat leaves their extremities. He is now an extremely intelligent healthy 17yr old with no problems at all. I think us mothers are made to worry about far too many things. Just relax and enjoy every minute. Believe me, it flies by!!!
