If u are going to work at the same place its a federal law that u can't go back until 6 weeks.
I didn't work for a year because ANYTHING can happen to your child when no one is around or carelessness of a baby sitter. I'm not saying take off for a year but give it 6 weeks for your body to heal. :)

There is no law that states you can't go back before 6 weeks.  But your job should have a time frame that you agreed to in the manual and you can hold to that time frame.  Usually you are allowed 3 mo of maternity leave but as a Human Resources director I've seen people come back as soon as 2 weeks when their dr cleared them to drive and normal activity.  Depending on how long you gave been with your company you can also look into FMLA which people wrongly assume is only for medical, however unless you have short term disability or suplimemtary insurance consider if financially you can afford being out of work longer.
