It worked with my daughter and I will be having it with my son. I highly recommend it. Not only did it help put me in labor (the second sweep) but it made it easier and a lot quicker.  It is uncomfortable but well worth it!!!

I had it done with my first daughter and my water broke and I went into labor 2 days later. My midwife told me that if shes ready it will help start labor and if not it wont do anything. I dont remember it being that painful just uncomfortable and alot of pressure.

Lol no ladies^ a membrane sweep is where the doctor uses his fingers to gently seperate the amniotic sac from the cervix. This technique is used to try and kickstand labor by releasing  prostaglandins the hormones involved in starting labor. A membrane sweep is only about 40% effective. I just hand my 2nd sweep yesterday and so far nothing has changed. It is a pretty uncomfortable to have done, but it's pretty quick and works for some.

I had it done with my second and it worked, it didn't really hurt just a lot of pressure. Go pee before they do it lol puts a lot of pressure on your bladder.

It where the doctor or midwife with use their finger to stretch back your cervix and push all around that area to try and kick start labour. At times women can have spotting afterwards, contractions can start or your mucus plug may come away. These things may not happen straight away or even at all. I think if your body is on the verge of labouring then it can be successful. Its uncomfortable but given what your  about to go through and especially if your overdue your willing to give anything a try

Its where the doctor scrapes the openings of your cervix with his/her fingers in attempt to start labor. My doctor did it with my first. Not only did it hurt but it didn't work.
