1st haircut question

How old were your daughters/sons when they got their 1st haircut? Whats the norm? My daughter is 16mo and her bangs are hanging in her eyes. I always put it up in a ponytail on top like a whale spout. Its not long enough in the back for a regular ponytail. but her dad can't put it up and clips fall out in minutes. I know she wont sit still and I would have to hold her down, sounds dangerous. People keep telling me to get it cut but I think she's too young.. your opinions or experiences?

For boys I would say not until a year or older because the scalp is still soft, unless it's just a trim with scissors then just whenever his hair is getting tangled or in his eyes. I got my son faded for his first bday, my baby girls not here yet but i wouldn't trim it at all until the ends start looking ratty.

I cut my daughter's bangs at 18 Mos.  First professional haircut not done by me at 3 1/2

I'm a hairstylist and when my daughter was about 3-4months old she started pulling her hair out. So to even it up so it didn't look so patchy. I mainly layered, and trimmed just a tiny bit to even it out. And again at 5, 8, 12months just so it grows in even. She has such thin fine hair. The last was just before she turned 2. Find someone that does kids cuts, and maybe get her nails painted. Little day of beauty. She will enjoy it.

Oh wow, thanks for the advice ladies. I definitely plan on taking her to a kids salon.  She also has curls at the bottom but not too crazy. I'm feel better now, gonna talk to my fiance and see how he feels about it. Would you all recommend straight bangs? I just want it out of her eyes when its down, but I still want to put it up once in awhile.

My daughter was born with 4 inches of hair I started trimming her hair at 6 wks and every 6 wks since I trim it! It's like a adults head of hair and all the way to her but at 3 1/2! And i don't give her little girl haircuts she has a awesome side bang and long layers!

My son was 8 months.I don't remember how old MY daughter was exactly but I just gave hera tiny trim and cut off her rat trail like a little short bob. I'm a hair stylist and honestly kids do 100 times better not being held down by their parents.just go to someone who is used to cutting little kids hair.I can do a little kid cut in about 5 minutes 10 tops

My son was 11 mos and he cried the first time, but looked so handsome.  He matured by the second time around at a year and a half and didn't fuss at all.

My daughter has "wicked curly hair" and we got it cut at about one at a kids shop. Its was great experience. You should get kids hair trimmed every few mths ot promotes healthy hair and growth. If you never cut it tigerlily the hair will start to fall out in clumps.

My son had his 1st at 12mths and just had his 2nd at 15mths. He goes swimming every week and long hair gets in his eyes.

Both my boys had a haircut at 12 mth. Never had a girl so can't help you with that, so I think it depends on your daughter and her hair needs. A little trim may be just what's needed! :-)

My first son was 21months. N my second boy was 13 months when they got their first hair cut usually the best time to get their hair cut is when there at least a year old.

I cut my son's hair for the 1st time at 5 months. Look for a kids haircut place like pigtails and crew cuts .... and she will love it

I cut my daughters bangs when she was 9 months and I did a horrible job. She got it done at a kids salon when she was 12 months

My daughter is two and never had a haircut. I don't plan on trimming her hair until she is like 5.
