2nd and 3rd time breastfeeding moms

I was wondering if any moms out there had an easier time breastfeeding (and breastfeed longer) the second time.

I was only able to nurse my son for 8 weeks and I'm hoping to go longer this time.

I was only able go breastfeed my first fit 6 months but able to breastfeed my second for a year.  At the 6 month mark with my first I went down on supply so I stopped because I was worried my daughter want getting enough,  when the same thing happened with my second, again at 6 months I didn't give up.  I would breastfeed and then immediately pump after for 15-20 minutes, it made my body realize baby needed more so my body produced more.

My first go round my baby girl wouldn't latch at all. By #2 I was a pro at it lol I nursed for 17 months. Latching was easier, I made more milk, and I wasn't as stressed while trying. I definitely plan to nurse again with this baby

I think I'm going to pick up a nipple shield and pack it in my hospital bag. I have very large breasts and one of my nipples is almost inverted.  I'm hoping it helps to have the shields

Its reassuring to hear from other moms that it is easier the 2nd time... my 1st time was not that successful... and LoriBee- I used the nipple shield the 1st time around and it helped with latching for me and made it so it wasn't painful/uncomfortable. ..

The lactation specialist at the hospital was awful! She was no help at all.  I'm going to start doing some reading on how to help my supply.

Has anyone used those nipple shield things for latching?

Speak to a lactation consultant and get online and read up about issues. This time around since I might have a preemie I am going to see about renting a scale so I can monitor weight gain as well. Limit caffeine,  I plan on trying the special mothers milk tea, I just hope it tastes descent b/c it says to drink 3-5 cups a day. There are also foods that can help increase supply. And the biggest thing I had to learn was patience, if you stick with it and allow baby to nurse then your body will produce all that it needs to...

Amazing!  Exactly what I want to hear.  I had latching and supply issues with my son.

Any tips for me to have better success?

Definitely had an easier time the second time around. The first time, latching was painful for at least 2 weeks, probably more. Unfortunately getting pregnant a third time caused me to have to wean my second when she was around 18 months, and I really wanted to let her nurse until at least 2 years old or longer

Yes! I only nursed 10wks with my first and I nursed 18 months with my second!! Being educated on breastfeeding made it possible with my second and realizing when the growths happen and that with nursing they eat more often. I am hoping to have the same success with baby #3.
