cystic fibrosis and ds test

How many of you had the tests done? My doctor asked me today and I declined them both.He ddidn't blink an eye or have any reaction. I just don't want to worry and I have heard of results coming back saying the baby would had down syndrome....worrying the mom all along only to have a perfectly healthy baby in the end. I just rather not know and keep on loving my baby stress free.

It didn't matter to me what the test involved (blood work or u/s) I just rather not worry. I've had 2 previous miscarriages so I've already had my fair share of unnecessary stress.

Gene (as is my sister).. Our doctor tested both of our husband's and they were both negative for it.. Thank god! The 2nd pregnancy I don't know if they did it or not... I had a bunch of blood tests and ultrasounds as it was... they didn't mention anything about the carrier of cystic fibrosis. .. Although I did tell them I was a carrier and my husband was not in the beginning

The tests are non - invasive... 2 blood tests and ultrasound.. my first daughter they did the tests at 13 weeks... I originally declined because I told my ON that it wouldn't make a difference but my sister talked me into it because if the ultrasound.. she found out the sex of her baby at 12 weeks because of the testing and I found out at 13 weeks I was having a girl. I also found out that I am a carrier for the cystic fibrosis

I did it even though I knew it wouldn't be an issue because my husband is of different ethnicity than I am.

I did it just to be prepared physically and mentally if my baby was born with Any abnormalities. It's nothing just blood work and an ultra sound.

I did the quad screen for down's syndrome. It is non invasive (blood test and US) which can only to your babies relative risk. I would have done the genetic mapping if my risk was high (blood test as well).

I agree you don't love them less . I would want to know because one can line up the specialist needed (cardiologist, surgeon etc). False positives do cause allot of uneasy unnecessary anxiety.

It's best that you make the decision based on self knowledge of what would be best for your mind set.
On the other hand I don't want to know the gender because I want an awesome surprise.

Good luck

My thoughts exactly. It just seems like unnecessary stress. And we already love our little man unconditionally so, i don't personally see any good reason for testing.

Yeah there's a lot of false positives with the ds test. I took it but wish I didn't nothing came back wrong but even if it did I wouldn't love my son any less.

My doctor asked the same thing, if I wanted to so the genetic testing.  She also followed by telling her story about how 3 out of 4 of her kids had abnormal results yet 4 out of 4 she birthed came out perfect. So I declined the invasive procedures. What God gives me either way is a gift. Just my thoughts..
