Breastfeeding aaaah!!!

I'm a ftm & almost half way. I'm super excited about meeting my baby even excited about the labour (strange) but breastfeeding terrifies me. I burst into tears every time I think about it.  I'm so scared, I'm worried I won't know what to do & my baby will starve :-( Any advice?

Thanks ladies, I don't know why it scares me so much I think it's because it's the unknown. I'll look into local support & classes. I definitely want to feed it's the best thing for the baby & it's free. Thanks for your advice X X

It comes pretty naturally and most hospitals provide a lactation coach for anyone who needs it. Also the nurses will help too! I breast fed my first and plan to do it with this second one again :) it's so convienient and easy! My personal suggestion is to toughen up your nipples. All you do is scrub them with a wash cloth and do it a little harder each time you bathe. I've done this with my babies and have never had to use any lanolin, had cracking, or blocked milk ducts. That was the best advice I got from my cousin who has 5 children and she breast fed them all with no problems either. You can also pump if you aren't comfortable with feeding, that way baby still gets your milk and all the antibodies it needs to protect itself before they get first shots at 6 months

They have lactation specialist at hospital who will help you or even check to see if you are doing it right. All you have to do is ask for help. I am sure you'll do just fine mama.

It's my understanding that the nurse will show you what to do. Have you thought about taking breastfeeding classes? Don't cry, mama. You'll be just fine and your baby won't starve. It's OK.

It will come pretty natural once baby is here. I was scared with my son but I breastfed him for 9months. If I could have went longer I would have but I dried up. Baby will not starve! You are more then capable of feeding him/her! Just ask a consultant or your doctor in the hospital to watch you feed him and give you tips. Totally worth trying! I loved breast feeding
