I mean, that's a lot of soda...but if it's between that and likely dehydration I think it's ok. My only concern would be the aspartame used as a sweetener. Honestly though-I'm sure its okay., just keep trying to substitute it as soon as you can. :)
I wouldn't drink that much of it personally as it contains aspartame to sweeten which can also cause issues. Is there anything else you can stomach? E.g. Juice or milk?
If nothing else works, it's better than dehydration, but if it's the fizziness that makes it drinkable, why not try sparkling water? That way, you won't be dumping chemicals into your body and baby. I lived off ice cold Perrier in my first trimester.
Try seltzer water. Its flavored and carbonated but doesn't have all the bad stuff like diet coke. If you need a sugar kick try one regular coke, a little caffeine is okay ans regular is so much better than diet
The diet caffine free coke is fine, I drink one can a day. However they say not to have more then 2-3 a day. I would try mixing in carbonated water in between, and some fruit juice. That way you might be able to reintroduce your self to these things slowly to get use to drinking them again.
I wouldn't drink that even if I wasn't pregnant due to the aspartame. ..I've read that is a terrible artificial sweetener...could you try maybe some s pelegrigio(sp) I think that stuff taste great! So sorry your so sick...but I would deff switch drinks!
I hate to break it to you, but you are not staying hydrated by drinking soda- not even a little bit. Try sparkling water- it's carbonated and flavored and much better than diet coke. Then try and add in some regular water. I get the flavored kind too.
Not that you can't have diet coke at all, of course you can. It's just not going to keep you hydrated.
Ok thanks everyone. I have tried fizzy and sparkling water but had the same results with just not keeping it down at all. Fruit juice is a definite no go, milk I'm ok with in small amounts. I'll try watering the coke down with carbonated water and see if that helps introduce me better to staying on just fizzy water. Seeing midwife at end of December so I'll mention it to her as well. And maybe add a bit more milk into the day too :) thanks for all your help.
What if you mixed the fruit juice with seltzer? Like Orange juice and shelter that way the juice isn't so sweet to upset your tummy. Also try teas :3
Keep looking for different options. Fizzy drinks eat calcium out of your bones, and now that your preggo it's an extra strain on your body since baby is also draining calcium from your bones if your not getting enough calcium. Sodas also lead to more dehydration so I'd be careful.
Try different ways of drinking water. For example I could only drink ice water, with lemon not through a straw. Or smart water right from the store really cold. I hear ya tho I would still throw up water my first trimester. It took me to week 20 before I could eat or drink. O.J. was out of the question and milk made my stomach turn almost like curdling. You can have 200 mcg of caffeine a day and 20 oz coke is only like 30 so your fine there but the sweetener in diet is pretty bad. What about 7 up or sprite? I would keep experimenting with water. Put a wedge of lemon in it that helps sickness. Don't drink it right away after waking up anything. If you can accomplish at least 16 oz of water that's a start. Also can you get water intake from vegetables or does that make you sick too?
Diet coke, like any other sugary drink, dehydrates people. You should stop drinking it. I would recommend mix water with lemon juice and ice, or with cucumber, or with any juice you like. I hope you feel better.
Have you tried a sports drink, like Gatorade? I can't keep water down either, and my nutritionist said watered down Gatorade is fine.
