Dialated, then closed up?

I'm confused. I would have asked at the hospital, but to many things were going on at once and I was in pain. At my appt 4 days ago I was almost a 3 according to my Dr, and about 90%. At the hospital the nurse checked and said my cervix was still closed so they sent me home, even though I was having consistent contractions. How was I 3, then closed... I've been having contractions on and off for over a week. 38 weeks now.

I have an induction date next week, but was kind of hoping all these contractions were a good sign..But hey, as long as she's healthy. :)

Awe, poor thing! A closing cervix isn't a common everyday pregnancy complication but it actually does exist. It's not impartially a great sign for a planned vaginal birth, especially since your so far along. In some cases it results in a cesarean delivery but don't get all upset because it's definitely not the same for each pregnancy and delivery. Be patient!! Hopefully your baby will decide that she's ready to meet her mommy!! If not then doctors can induce you to help your body dilate as need be. :-)

Really? She has dropped, just a few days ago. When my Dr checked he said she was right there on my cervix. I guess I assumed all these contractions were progressing that... not closing up again. :(

It could have been from the baby being deeply engaged in your pelvic area, sometimes if a baby moves your cervix muscles can contract back to its previous stage.

I've no idea things are done so differently in our countries.  Maybe phone and ask how you closed again x

They want my contractions more frequent and gaining in intensity, which I understand. No reason to sit at the hospital when this could take days. But I don't understand how my cervix is suddenly closed...
