I agree with both of those ladies. I would do cold first and then interchange warm. Makes sense to me. ^_^

Google cabbages help engorgement. You may find recommended lengths of time to do this. Most say 20 min. Others say until you feel relief. Some sources more credible than others. I hope you get relief and that all goes well with you.

Yes. My nurse told me this as well as all Iwanted to do was get relief so I immediately thought to get something warm but if you are filled with milk that isn'tcoming out, the last thing you want to do is produce more until you can get it out. My engorgement was so bad that I felt like I had rocks in them. It even hurt under my arms.

So cold to reduce  swelling and warm to stimulate the flow?

I will agree with emi326 though that after the engorgement is gone, a warm shower before breastfeeding will helpthe milk flow and then you should try to feed baby more frequently if possible and make sure the latch on is giving baby enough milk to prevent becoming engorged again.

No offense lil mommy, warm water will help loosen the milk ducts. Lovinfaith are you wanting to breast feed? If you do then warm compresses.  Cabbage leafs are used to stop milk production and dry you out.

DO NOT put them under warm water as this will stimulate the milk flow even worse. Now this is going to sound crazy, but trust me it was the only way I got relief. Get cold cabbage leaves and insert them into your bra. A head of cabbage will become your best friend. When those leaves are no longer cold replace them. You can also express milk manually by squeezing them which can be painful and breast milk is what I used to call liquid gold, because I didn'twant to waste it. I found out about cabbage leaves 4 babies ago browsing the internet. Check it out, you may find it, and it may bring you relief. I sure hope so. I remember the pain of engorgement like yesterday!
