My daughter is 3 w and I pump and breastfeed and she gets a soother and no confusion! Just keep at it. Maybe go by bottles the represent nipples ot might be easier because baby will need to eat and your going to have to transition baby to straight breastfeeding.
I'm so glad you posted this question, I'm a gym and I'm having a difficult time getting my 4day old son to latch on for breast feeding. I've had lactation nurses advice but hasn't worked as much. I know it's natural I'm determined to get it. It can be a stressful time at the beginning though. Thanks ladies for all your advice
Get a nipple shield and see a lactation consultant. I pumped for 3 months and fed him by bottle. The nipple shield brought him to the breast. I would latch him on with the shield and then after 5 minutes remove it and try to latch him to the breast after a week he was straight breastfed. It is possible and it takes a lot of patience because the baby will be fussing when trying to latch to the breast. See a lactation consultant.
I will try my best & use all these tips! Thank you so much ladies!! Great info!! :)
Use gravity. Get on your back and let the baby use gravity to help her latch on. I don't know if this will work persay but this was advice given by a lactation expert in my last class. Worth a shot.
I breastfed all three first two were in nicu so yes nipple problems just work at it every time u feed when she gets hungry start with Brest .....u almost have to smash it in at first so it gets hard and they can feel it and when baby gets to frustrated switch so they don't get r o upset it took about a month to get them on brest only but well worth the bonding time and the effort free nightly feedings
After I introduced bottle to my baby he sometimes gets nipple confusion and won't latch on no matter how long I try, when this happens I put my nipple shield on and he's eating perfectly with it, sometimes I remove it in the middle of the feeding and he is ok with it, u can try to trick your baby with nipple shield too, good luck!
Shes only 9 days old so shes still pretty "moldable" lol it will probably be rough for couple of days but just keep at it for every feeding! If you keep giving her bottles she'll just keep expecting them! Just keep at it and don't supplement! You can do it:)
I agree with rainfamily too its going to be a lil tough but I will try to breastfeed her though. I know I breastfed my son the first day I had him n I also gave him formula too. But I always breastfed first n if he was still hungry gave him formula. I heard it's easier for them to get milk from the bottle vs ur breast bc they have to work harder to get the milk.
It will be I lil tougher since she got used to the feeling of how easy it is to get the milk from a bottle, but don't give up :) be patient she will learn! Breast is best!!
