Failed my glucose screening:(

Bummed out. I failed my one hour glucose test. Now I have to go back tomorrow for the three hour test. I think it's my fault because, like a dumb a**, I ate waffles for breakfast.  I called the lab and they said it wad fine to still come in, but now I wish I would have waited!

I have had multiple glucose screenings done (due to having more than 1 koddo) and I have never heard from a ob/doctor that you didn't have to fast? I never even drank a drop of water and scheduled my Apts bright and early in the morn so I could go get it done and eat and drink after. I would def say fast bc that will give your the most accurate results..good luck!

I was told to eat breakfast but not high in carbs or sugars. I think you're right though this test shouldn't vary with doctors.

Yah, with my daughter, the doctor's office made the test offered one day a week first thing in the morning for all patients. We were told to not eat anything before the appointment. I feel like such an important test shouldn't vary between doctors... Guess I'll find out what this doctor does with my current pregnancy...

I failed my one hour ( had pb&j right before test) and passed the 3.  The fasting thing is all over the board.  We have 4 obgyns at our hospital and all tell u something different: fast, don't fast, eat 3 hours before, only eat certain things.  I wish I had fasted bc the 3 hour test sux and made me feel I'll afterwards :(  good luck to u tho I hope u pass and feel great!

Yeah my first two kids I fasted prior to the test.   This time I didn't have to. They had told me not to eat a high carb breakfast and of course I chose waffles, lol. For the test tomorrow they said definitely fasting. I'm just nervous.  I've never had GD before,  but I also started this pregnancy about 70 lbs over weight. That definitely increases your risk in general. The diet or exercise aspect doesn't bother me. But I  hate the idea of finger sticks. Which is ironic as I'm a nurse and have done them on others for years. Big baby, lol

I went fasting. but they sent me back to have breakfast and come again after that.
and the drink wasnt so sweet at all. the stuff I eat during the day is so much sweeter and more in quantity. anyway, I passed.

Wow...I've always been told by the lab and doctor to always fast for my glucose testing. I would definitely avoid eating before the 3 hour test. Goid luck on your next test.

Oh! See the way I understood it was with a few of my pregnant friends is they didn't have to fast. If they produced enough insulin through the pancreas it would cover every time they ate something. So even if you ate every hour or half hour or whenever you would be in normal ranges. Confusing! Good luck on your tests lady's :)

My dr told to fast before both the one hour and the three hour tolerance test. I failed the 1 hr and passed the three hour. They wouldn't let me drink water once I started the three hour either. It was torture!

Bestchristmasever. To each there own and this is my opinion in no way am I trying to badger you or upset you but I don't think you should wait till after to est. They give you this test because its important. To see if you have gd. Gd can cause complications in pregnancy. If you fail. You monitor your diet. I'm diabetic before pregnancy I don't have to take the test because they already know I have to follow a diet, take insulin shots 3 times a day, check my sugar 4 times a day, walk after meals, go to nst testing 2 times a week. Trust me it's a pain and I know. But that outweighs having a large baby I wouldn't be able to deliver, a possible still born, my baby not being able to regulate his own sugar when he's born causing his sugar to be sky high or very low. I think maybe you should look a little more into gd before you opt out on not doing the test the proper way.

I did the three hour test. You will do fine just have something to keep you busy cause the waiting is the bad part
