First U/S today - yolk sac but no fetal pole

Hi everyone.  This is my third pregnancy - first one ended in a m/c (blighted ovum) and I have a wonderful 16 month old son.  I did IVF for my first two pregnancies and just found out I'm pregnant again last week - this time "the old fashioned way!"  So I had my first HCG level checked last Monday 5/20 and it was 1634.  Then on Wednesday 5/22 it was 3578.  I have no idea how far along I am because I am extrememly irregular.

So today I went in for a dating scan and we saw a gestational sac and yolk sac.  The sonographer said everything looked great but that it was just very early and too early to see the fetus.  My Dr. will call with more details after she reviews the ultrasound readings.  But now I'm worrying myself sick because I figure my hcg must be pretty high by now and thought you could see a heartbeat once the levels were over 10,000.

I kind of think I've done too much research on this stuff due to the IVF cycles and the blighted ovum and as a result I just can't help but worry even though the sonographer said everything looked fine. :(

Sorry for the long post - just looking for a place to vent and none of my friends/family understand terms like "hcg" and "yolk sac".  LOL

For this pregnancy the pole didn't show up until I was 8 wks and my dr was planning on scheduling me for a d and c if none showed on the scan. It surprised me and my doctor....but goes to show there is hope. Keep hoping and thinking positively.

I talked to the nurse today - not the greatest news...The sac was measuring at 6 weeks and 3 days, so normally they expect to see a fetal pole by then.  The nurse said this is unusual, but that the sonographer who does this all the time thinks things look normal so to keep my chin up.  I go back a week from tomorrow.

Trying to take their advice and stay positive!  Thanks for the support ladies!

Yep soumd normal just early. For me at 4wks they saw but a thickening uterus.  At 6 weeks they say a fetel pole and a spot at the end they said was the sac....but nothing more..you must be in there somewhere...

I wouldn't worry to much, that's not good for you or the baby.
I had my first ultrasound at what I thought was 5w 2d but only the sac, no yoke sac or fetal pole, the sac measured at 4w 6d so the tech said way to early and this early every day makes a difference and I probably just ovulated late

Thanks for your reply!  I agree, I really should stay away from Google!  Hopefully my Dr. will have something reassuring to say tomorrow and I'll find out when my follow up u/s will be.

Your numbers look great and doubling right where they should.. Right at 4 weeks mine was 1028. Seeing the sac and yolk sac is great sign. Your prob only about 5 weeks now and you normally can't see hearbeat till 6-8 weeks. Stay away from google!! lol . I'm sure everything is fine :)
