Getting Hair Colored

Ive read 50/50 things about getting hair colored. Im going to be 8 weeks here in a couple of days. Im getting it professionally done at a salon. I am a licensed cosmetologist myself and alot of coloring products are safe on the scalp. Ove workd with lots of pregnant girls and they were all fine and there working sometimes 8 hours a day. I guess im just beong extra careful and want to take the right precaution because this is my 1st pregnancy and i want to ensure i do everything right. i guess i never thought about it before until now, because im in the shoes of being pregnant. I really would like some great advice or tips. I go to my hairdresser all the time (girl i actually used to work with) and i never smell the color while its on my head. and actually when i worked with her she was pregnant! Her little boy is almost 3 and perfectly healthy!! What should i do? Ive done clients hair before who were pregnan but they were farther along in their pregnancy.

they say the small amount of chemicals that may seep into your blood stream through your scalp by hair dye is not enough to hurt the bay. I have colored mine twice and my baby's fine. i waited til i was out of the first trimester though

I'm also a license cosmetologist. I just colored my hair at home yesterday actually with Redken Up to 7 and it was fine. They say ventilation is a big deal but also be prepared that it may not turn out exactly the way you expected due to hormones. Like my blonde gets a stuck at the pale yellow stage when I want it at the palest yellow possible. Not a huge deal but just be prepared.  :)

Your scalp doesnt absorb the chemicals though.... If that was the case, we would all be sick just from washing our hair....ya know what im tryin to say? Plus back in the day when they didnt know better they were even perming their hair and thats worse!!!!!!

My doctor said that I could hi light but no all over coloring... it's more about the chemicals on the scalp than the ventilation. This is my 5th and I'm not overly cautious but I still wouldn't dye my hair while pregnant. Just too risky.

It's ok to colour your hair; but you must DEFINITELY do a skin test before hand....even if you used same one for many years. As with all this hormones you could have a reaction.

You can color your hair and you're more safe at the salon. People say wait until your 2nd trimester, but if you're fine and asked your doctor then go ahead. I know it's awful when us women want to dye our hairs and can't lol. I think I waited a bit and I even did it myself. But as long as its a well ventilated place I'm sure you'll be fine:)

You can color your hair, the biggest concern is the ventilation. I'm a licensed hair dresser as well I'm just not working right now due to my 9 year old who has special needs. I'm 12 weeks now and just colored my hair two weeks ago, I used Paul Mitchell and had no issues. Good luck and congrats on the baby
