Getting induced Friday... Scared.

Need some advice from moms who have been induced, I've heard sometimes it doesn't work the first time, and that the contractions are 10x worse. I'm absolutely terrified of what is going to happen! What if my cervix doesn't dilate enough and they just send me home and something happens while I'm at home :-( I don't want to leave the hospital.

I was induced on 17th had the pessary inserted at 2.30pm and started getting period like pains at around 11pm I was advised to get a long warm bath by the midwife as it speeds the pessary up,by 3am I was getting strong regular contractions and was 4cm dilated, the pains were intense but im a ftm so I don't know what Labour is like without been induced,my baby was born at 10:13am on the 18th :-)

I've being induced for 3 of my babies. On 1st induction got the gel at 8.30am and baby was born at 11.30pm,pain built up gradually in afternoon but didn't find them any stronger than with my first baby,2nd induction i got gel at 6.30am and baby was born at 3.30pm,more or less the same as with previous only time between contractions starting and delivery being quicker, 3rd induction I got gel 6.30am and 3.30pm for 3 days then sent home for a rest (and it was mothers day) and back again next evening for induction the next day, got gel twice that day too and nothing happened that day either so next morn at 9.30 they broke my waters and put me on drip, pains started at 11.30am and baby was born at 1.10pm. I did think that the pains were alot sharper on my last one but they said it was because it was all so quick.wouldn't say they were 10 times stronger tho maybe twice as strong. Currently 22 weeks and thinking I'll b doing it all again come September

I was induced with my first. I was only a fingertip dialated when I went in. They started my induction the night before by incerting a pill into my cervix to help it soften and dialate. I made it to 1 cm the next morning and they started me on pitocin. The contractions weren't too bad - completely managable. By the end of the day though, I was only 2 cm. I was given the option of a c-section or trying again the next day. I opted to try again.

So that night they put a gell on my cervix and the next morning I was 3 cm. My doctor broke my water and started the pitocin. The contractions were definitely more intense! But 8 hours later I was only 4 cm. The doctor wanted to do a c-section but I opted to get an epidural, up the pitocin and put an internal contraction monitor in instead. It was slow, but I was able to dialate and deliver vaginally.

Yes, it was a long process, but it was TOTALLY worth it. I've since had two more babies - one vaginally and one c-section. My daughter (vaginal) was a completely natural delivery with no epidural. It was perfect! My second son (c-section) was breach and 11 lbs. Although I'm happy I didn't have to push out an 11 lb baby, the c-section was much harder to recover from.

My advise to you would be to do everything you can to prepare your body for labor. Go for lots of walks, have tons of sex (seriously, this helps) and eat pinapple (it helps to soften the cervix). If your body is ready for labor, an induction will be MUCH easier!

With my first pregnancy,I went in dialated at 4cm and my OB induced me,after that I stopped dialating and was given pitosin to speed up labor. All together I was in labor for 5 hours so it wasn't bad to me

With my last pregnancy I was induced. The contractions came on quick but I was dilating slow. My doctor suggested the epidural, he said it would help me rest and dilate a little faster and if that didn't work he was doing a c-section. About 2 hours after my epidural I had fully dilated and began pushing. I had a healthy baby boy vaginally.
The contractions did feel a little more intense. I doubt they would send you home after giving you medication to start labor. I was scared to be induce but the hospital staff and my doctor kept reassuring me everything would be fine.
If your still nervous talk to your doctor and if possible have someone with you that you can depend on for support during your induction and labor.
Hope all goes well.
