Home Birth

I have no medical insurance of any kind at this time. I may possibly have some by my due date...but I'm seriously considering home birth for expense control. I've had two other healthy children. I hate hospital stays and I'm thinking home birth might be for me. Does anyone have previous experience?

Some people have good experiences some don't. Someone could have a good experience and then a bad. It really depends on the labor and delivery and just because you have had 2 healthy deliveries doesn't mean this one will or won't be a good experience at home or in a hospital. I know it doesn't answer your question but it's kind of a difficult question for anyone to answer because every labor and delivery is different.

I have several friends and a sister in law who have had awesome home birth experiences. They've found it much more relaxing and had very positive views of birth afterward. I would be having a home birth except that I live on a military installation where it's not allowed... I'd say go for it! A good midwife will be awesome.

I do not qualify for state insurance or medicaid. I can afford care through a home birth center...which is about three thousand dollars...but I'm just wondering if people have had good experiences through home birth.

Did you try getting Medicaid?

I'm not sure where you live but you should apply for for state medical insurance because in my opinion you still need prenatal care by a doctor during the pregnancy. I suppose you could go to the health department but I'd get a midwife who can make the health calls when it comes to medical options if something doesn't go right during the at home birth.
