Echogenic bowel?

Hi ladies, I will be honest I am freaking out right now. We went to 20 week sono today and got to see the baby moving and kicking, sucking thumb and giving us a thumb up. Just magical. Then the doctor comes in and tell us that everything looks perfect, except what she called echogenic bowel. Basically fancy term for blood in a bowel. Which is a marker for downs. I had a 12 week nt test done and the chance came back 1 in 100000 which is terrific. I am 32, my SO is 42. No history on both sides. So, now they sent me for extra blood work. And then amnio is still an option. Me and my boyfriend are just in shock. Does anyone know anything about it or maybe did experience it personally. The dr also mentioned that everything else looks perfect and it could be that baby swolloed blood from the hemorroging that I had in the first trimester.

Hi.. I know what you are going through. We I went for my 20 week ultrasound my little boy also had an ecogenic bowel. My husband and I were so scared. I had the panaroma blood test and everything turned out just fine. My dr. Told me that there is such a small chance of my baby having down syndrome but we had to do the test. He also said that an ecogenic bowel is only one marker for down syndrome and that he would be more worried if there were more markers. Good luck to you and I hope everything turns out ok.

Hi, thank you for your answer. Is this your current pregnancy?  Did your dr say what could be the reasons behind ecogenic bowel in general?

Hi. No problem I know how scared my husband and myself were when we heard that news from the dr. And yes it is my current pregnancy.  I'm 25wks and we had the ultrasound at 20 wks so it wasn't that long ago we went through the same thing. My dr. Said there is no disernable reason why he might have a ecogenic bowel just that it could be a marker for down syndrome. He did say that if I had more than one marker then that would mean my little boy had a higher chance but with only they one he said it was less than half a percent chance. I hope everything turns out ok for you and your baby!
