Ladies... I need your advice!

So, I'm 9 weeks pregnant with my first child. I just found out the day before yesterday, which turned out to be the day that my now fiance had been planning to purpose! It was not planned, but as he is 39 and I am 27, we are so very ready to begin our life together. We believe this baby is God's wedding gift to us ^_^

The problem is; my fiance is from Yukon, Canada and currently works for several months at a time in Vancouver. We maintain a home there, as well as a home in St. Louis for the duration of the year.

I am due on December 25th, which falls on a work month for my fiance. Though, I would like our baby to be born in the states. I mean, how is he or she supposed to become president without an American Citizenship!?

So I just wanna know if I'm being ridiculous!? My fiance is the best man I know and goes above and beyond to make me happy, but this is VERY important to me... WHAT DO I DO???

If this is your first odds are you will go late. The problem being you aren't supposed .tp travel that far into your pregnancy. How long before your due day do you plan on going there? Remember .tp look for Obgyn over there too

Oh good! Thanks so much, I feel more comfortable with it now. It was bad enough that the baby is due on Christmas so I'll have to be without my family for the holidays AND the birth. But now that you mention visiting, maybe I could talk my family into coming to me! Canada in the winter time is gorgeous. Thanks so much!!!

makes sense - since you both have citizenship, your baby will be a US citizen at birth no matter where it is born. But go to the US Embassy and file the forms to get a SSN number if you deliver in Canada. the baby will need a passport to come back into the county - US or Canadian. Hardest part about getting the passport - the babies eye have to be open in the picture. - but the passport with the baby picture is valid until they are 5 or 7

maybe your family will want to visit canada this december!

And it's not like I'm expecting that my child WILL be president, I just want he/she to have the best opportunities possible, ya know?

Thanks! He actually has dual citizenship, I wonder if that makes a difference? He even wanted us to go back to Yukon for the baby's birth because of some cultural traditions but his contract won't allow it. I don't even have any family in Canada and am VERY nervous about that for some reason, which I can't seem to be able to explain to him either.

natural born citizen - John McCain was born on an army base in Panama
you just can be a Naturalized citizen
Ted Cruz was born in Canada to US citizen - and he can legally be president (not that i want him to be...)

They have to be born in the united states not just be a natural citizen. Is there a way your husband can get off of work that month?

you have to be a "naturally born" citizen to be president, if you fiance is a US citizen then you child will be from birth even if born in Canada - you just have to fill out a form.
My brother and his wife emigrated to Israel, all 3 of their kids are citizens and got US passports as infants. - but ask an immigration lawyer so you can be sure on the details, and maybe a constitutional law prof (there will be one at the Wash U law schhol in St. Loius)

i sort if wish being born in Canada kept you from being president...i really don't want Ted Cruz to be able to run....
