Maternity Leave

When is the best time to take maternity leave? I'm 34 weeks, I'm trying to hang in there until my due date, but it's getting harder and harder each week that passes and my job knows I'll be leaving in a few weeks so they're working me harder, I guess to get as much out of me until I leave. We lost two staff members and I have been taking on most of their duties for 3 months now and they're not planning on replacing them until I go out on leave.

I'm planning on working up until between 38 and 39 weeks unless something happens.  With FMLA you get up to 12 weeks. I'm planning on taking 8 once he is here.  And I'm using some time for my OB appointments.

I'm still at work and due in 2 days. It's getting hard bc I am getting anxious for my baby's arrival. If and probably when I go over 40 weeks I plan to stick it out a few more days before I take leave. I would love to be at home now but I saved all my vacation  and sick time for when he actually is here.

With my first i planned on leaving at 39 weeks but she decided to come 3 weeks early so i worked the day she was born.  This time i think i will still try to make it to 39 or 40 weeks but we will see.  I am almost 32 weeks and am much more sore than with my first! I kinda want to spend some time with my toddler before things get crazy but dont want to be sitting at home waiting for baby either.  I do get 1 year partially paid leave so i know that makes a difference.  I work at a busy law firm and I dont have a replacement hired yet for my leave and it is stressing me out!

I am a NYC teacher and I don't get paid maternity and i don't have any more sick days, so like you i'm trying to work all the way up to my due date which is in 4 weeks. It's such a struggle each day showing up for work.
