I'm also 5 and a half weeks pregnant and my doctor won't do an ultrasound until 9 weeks because most insurances won't cover for one before that. However I will be able to hear the heartbeat hopefully next Thursday when I go to my cardiologist to make sure my heart can handle the pregnancy! Just going to ask him to ultrasound my belly after he is done ultrasounding my heart...very exciting time! Good luck

For me, it was 8 weeks because they were able to detect a heartbeat at that point

It depends on your insurance and Dr. I was under the impression you get an ultrasound at your first apt because I've seen that happen with friends but my Dr was like oh you don't get one until 20 weeks. I was kinda upset I didn't want to wait until 20 weeks I have very irregular periods so I knew my estimated due date from my last period was probly wrong. I didn't want to wait until 20 weeks and be told I was a lot earlier than that. But But then my Dr told me about the sequential screening thing which is an ultrasound and blood test you get between 11-14 weeks so i decided to get it. I went in when I thought I was 12 weeks 5 days turns out I was only 9 weeks. They printed pix for me and it was small and the head was big lol but you could def tell it was a baby at that point. So I had to go back at 12 weeks and the baby was a lot bigger and more defined. The 12 week pic is cute.

I have had 6,7&10 and by far the 10 was best and looked like a lil Baby :-D so it also depends on what you want to see because if to early ur not going to see much.

They say the best week is 6 weeks. At that point they can get the most accurate due dates and you can see the heartbeat at that point as well. I had mine at 6w 1d and so glad I did. Seeing the heartbeat put any worry out of my mind we might lose the baby as once the heart starts beating the risk level drops to 8% chance you will miscarry.
