Hi I just had my baby 2 weeks ago :) congrats!! Yes I know what you mean about the weight.. my start weight before baby was 226 and im 5'3 so I was pretty chubby once I got pregnant I had a lot of morning sickness which helped me lose the weight and I started to just snack throughout the day. I completely changed my diet to healthier food. Instead of burgers I had chicken or turkey salads. Red meat grossed me out so I ate mainly chicken and turkey. I also stopped drinking soda and drank a lot of water. I never gained weight throughout my pregnancy in fact ends weight was down to 206. Now postpardum im fighting the craving but it's incredibly hard. I crave burgers and red meat, steak and potatoes haha. Trust me no need to diet just modify your eating to healthier foods and you should see results! Wishing you an awesome pregnancy ..enjoy it mama!
Congratulations! I'm over weight myself and I'll be 8 weeks on thursday. This is my 4th pregnancy (first in 7 years lol) and I work out moderately and I swim every week. Not to lose weight because the dr doesn't want you to do that, but to keep healthy and to keep blood suger and blood pressure low during the pregnancy. I was told by my dr to try not to gain more than 10-15 lbs. So any walking, swimming, stationary bike riding for 30 min a day will be helpful to yourself and your lil one on the way!
Congratulations on your pregnancy! I agree that you should not try to lose weight..not good for the baby and not good for your mind to have to wrestle a weight loss plan. I recommend taking the opportunity to change your eating behaviors to start filling up on healthier foods... Try to add a smoothie into your morning routine a few times per week (include spinach/greens) & work on eliminating a wheat or starchy carb during your dinner time and replacing it with a piece of fruit as an after dinner treat or snack. Small changes that are consistent will make you feel great. And consider asking a friend to go on a walk with you a few times per week. I need a person to keep me accountable to walking and unfortunately my husband is not the person to get me up and moving.
I've always been overweight but before I had my first I was my smallest ever. Weighing roughly 135- well my ending weight was 213 lbs and I'm only 5'1". So I was considered over weight then, but I also craved everything starchy and bad. Before I had my second I had only lost 20 lbs. now I did much better with my second-I only gained 20 lbs, I also walked a lot because I have a toddler. My second daughter is only 4 months old now and I'm pregnant with baby #3. I havent really lost any weight, maybe only 10-13 lbs before finding out I was pregnant again. So I'm considered Morbid obese now which is awfully hard to swallow since I worked so hard to loose weight before becoming pregnant at all. My doctor said the weight isn't something I can really control now other than healthy choices and exercise within reason. He definitely said not to try to diet or loose weight since I'm pregnant, just make healthy choices.
At this point enjoy your pregnancy and take care of yourself and the baby. Congratulations!!!
You aren't supposed to lose weight while pregnant (well not try) but your overall ' need to gain' will be lower. With my first I was defiantly on the thin side and had to gain 30 ish lb over the 40 weeks this time around I had a little extra weight to start and my number to gain was lower by around that much.
Talk to your OB about how much you should gain, and start a healthy (or healthier) diet and some light workouts.
