Painting while pregnant

I am 6 weeks pregnant with my first child. My husband and I decided to touch up our guest bedroom. Our chimney breast also needed to be repainted. I left him to do the bedroom and I did the chimney breast. I had the windows and door opened and it didn't take me that long. However, I had the beginnings of a headache all day and then
I got a really bad migraine afterwards so bad I had to go to bed for the rest of the day. I'm really worried that I've damaged our baby and I'm freaking out a little bit. I googled and that has scared me even more. All advice greatly appreciated.

I painted my sons room at 7 months. I agree with all the moms. The paints today are so much safer, than they were 20 years ago, so you should be fine. Everyone gets a headache from the fumes.

Thanks for all the helpful advice, the paint was a low odour, water based paint. I feel ok today, the remnants of migraine not quite gone. Painting has been finished and windows open aplenty with Yankee candles burning to help get rid of the smell. Thanks again ;-)

Baby is fine.  You didnt paint a huge amount.  I would be more worried if you guys had been paintinf the whole house and you had been exposed for days.  The headache could very well be caused by the paint fumes.  Paints have VOC which are the harmful chemicals.  I would say if you plan to paint more use a no VOC paint.  I use the one made by Olympic and live it.  Its great for nursery as the VOC in regular paint can come off walls for years.  Even when I'm not pregnant I use it since I'm prone to headaches and the fumes from regular paint get to me.  The no VOC paint has almost no smell.

I think baby will be okay. You took all the proper precautions with airing the space out, maybe you just over exerted yourself? How do you feel now?
