Period after giving birth!!!

How long after giving birth do we expect to have a normal period? It's been 5 weeks already for me and I also just started birth control this passed Sunday.

Also I had unprotected sex before starting the pill. Is there a possibility of becoming pregnant again? :(

sorry for your loss. but 10 days, stitches or not was a very quick turn around to have sex. talk to your doctor. definitely a chance of becoming pregnant. usually docs talk to you about birth control before delivery or at least immediately after to try to avoid that possibility.

@ajaynes84 no stitching done. But I think we waited til after 10 days. My son passed away at 15 days old so I'm just wondering if there is a high possibility of becoming pregnant again. I honestly don't want any heart aches of a third baby loss to major birth defects... :'(

Yes, you can get pregnant even if breastfeeding of you miss a feeding or feed on a slightly different schedule one day and then have sex. Labor and delivery nurse for almost 6 years and I have seen many test positive at their 6 week post partum visit... also, you can have bleeding that gets lighter and lighter for 6 to 8 weeks. If you had a vaginal delivery we recommend no sex, nothing on the vagina until you are cleared at the 6 week appointment. If you had a tear and it was repaired with stitches the risk of not healing properly, causing more damage and causing infection are reasons to abstain  for the first 6 weeks.

oh hun, im so sorry for your loss. my breastfeeding question feels super insensitive now. i asked because your body does have a general tendency to prevent you from getting pregnant if your breast feeding because it stops ovulation with some women so you arent having second baby while still breast feeding the first. i think your best bet would be to see your doctor. thoughts are with you.

I am so sorry for your loss.
It is extremely easy to get pregnant again after you give birth, so it is definitely a possibility that you could be pregnant again. You might want to check with your doctor about getting tested just so you know since you are on the pill now.
I was breastfeeding, but I don't think mine was more than six weeks after I had my csection. It was almost back to normal though, since my flow is usually on the heavy side anyway. Everyone is different though, so I think your best bet is just talking to your doctor about it.

Sorry for your loss. I can't  even imagine how hard it must be for you.  Normally for non breastfeeding women your period will return between 4 & 8 weeks. Basically when your hormones get back to normal. But stress from your loss maybe a factor.  Check with your dr to be sure but since you've started birth control chances are you won't start your period till near the end of the pack. (21-28 days from your 1st pill.)

Thanks ladies...it's just I had unprotected sex before our son passed away. :'( he was only 15 days old. That's why I'm afraid of getting pregnant again being that I'm still mourning his sudden passing.

I think it depends on the person. My sister got hers almost right away. Usually a period is every 28 days anyways so if it's already been five weeks.... Might wanna test.
