The baby has a gender the moment the egg is fertilized...
The ultrasound tech will not be able to determine the sex that early. My Ultrasound Tech and I were able to see my baby's sex at 11 weeks during the ultrasound. I'm unsure if there are any other methods that could detect the sex of the baby at 5 weeks though.
Blood tests on the mother can determine gender of the baby that early - is that what you're asking?
