Short Cervix

I am 18 weeks and 3 days pregnant. I did an anomaly scan yesterday. The baby is developing healthy but my cervix length is a few millimeters under 3centimetes. I am worried that I may go into labor prematurely or lose the baby. I have not had any spotting or bleeding. I am in no pain. I will meet the the gyn tomorrow to discuss my options. I'm just nervous and worried.

Has anyone delivered past 36 weeks with a short cervix

My dr would have put me on bedrest at 14 weeks if I would have agreed but didn't feel it was necessary because everything looked great.

I continued to work from week 14 to 23. The main reason I went on modified bedrest was due to pelvic floor spasms that are horribly painful. I was on vaginal progesterone the day of my first visit at 6 weeks and was swapped to the shots at 18 weeks. I also took procardia to help my uterus stay calm but had horrible side effects from it so they swapped me to magnesium oxide

FYI you can dilate with no spotting and no pain. It's the contractions that hurt and with the baby being the size it is now, you could deliver without contractions.

I had a precautionary cerclage at 14 weeks due to a history of preterm labor. My cervix measured 3.7cm. At 29 weeks my cervix had shortened to 2.8cm. I have been on modified bedrest since 23 weeks. If it shortens to 2.5 or less I will go on strict bedrest. I say get a cerclage just to be safe. You may not need it but best to have it and not need it than vice versa.

Yes my midwife said over 2.5 cm is ample... so hopefully you are fine! Good luck!

I have had a short cervix for all of my pregnancies I am currently on number 3. My first I made it to 37 weeks with nothing but bedrest. My second I made it to 36 weeks and I took progesterone every evening (vaginally). And now on my third pregnancy I am currently 33 weeks and still going strong. My cervix has been all the way down to .7 mm and that was at 28 weeks. At this point my doctor just monitors me every two weeks. Some women just have a short cervix and still carry to full term. And If the doctor is concerned you will get the cerclage. A short cervix isn't always an issue it only becomes a problem if you start to open and dilate. This being your first one I am sure your doctor will want to take all precautions. Good luck! It can be stressful not knowing but every week that goes by is a good week!

I was at 2.8 cm from 16 weeks until 26 weeks over. My doc said it was normal range and nothing to worry about.

If the cl lengths is less than 2.5 cm then has to be worried .they will place an emergency circalage. Talk to ur doctor for other options. There are successful stories with circalage n also otherwise. We just have to be positive and hope for the best.i had preventative circalage at 13 weeks n currently 14 week all I can say is it is going to work for us with God s will.
