Experience mothers, who already gave birth. Help!

I'm 39 weeks & 4 days. Im due feb 8th. Today I went to doctor, checked my cervix & still closed.  He made apt for me Monday for ultrasound to see how big the baby is & will see from there what to do. But he mentioned if there is no changes, I will be induced because the baby is big. Last time i did ultrasound, at 36 weeks, the baby weight 7 lbs & 14oz. He said my baby is baby, the more I pass due date, the bigger the baby gets,  and there is risk. Just S U C K S because I don't want to be induced. What are my chances of having this baby naturally without being induced?  I mean it is possible to start dilating & my cervix opens up without induction. I'm ftm.

I do want to give a slightly different opinion because it is personally what happened to me. Every woman is different. My first measured average at every appt and when I went over with her, none of doctors were worried. I went in for induction and turned out after 24 hrs of failed induction that she was way to big (for my body) and no one had noticed. She ended up at 9 lbs 3. Considering I'm 5ft 2 and was only 5lbs 6 when I was born full term no one expected it. I ended up with an emergency c-section and hemorraging. I've already been told I need a section at 39 weeks with this little one (I have other pre-existing conditions as well). Doctors often get weight wrong but it's important to remember that they can get it wrong from both ends of the scale.

Being induced definitely gave me a quick labour. I was 0-10cm dilated within 5 hours and delivered vaginally in 5 pushes.

I was induced with my first and it was just fine. I pushed and delivered vaginally. It's not the worst thing in the world. Your doctor is looking out for the safety of you and your baby. Just weigh your options. I just wanted to throw it out there being induced isn't a horrible route to go.

Have lots of sex if you can!  I found sex helped me go into labor with all 4 of my pregnancies!

Try to avoid it if you can. I was induced with my first only because my waters broke and contractions didn't start. As a result of induction my contractions were super intense and painful.

My signs of labor with my son only came a few hours my contractions began. He never dropped, water never broke. My mucus plug came out in the toilet and then contractions started few hours later. I was stuck at 3 cm dilation for 12 hours with no change. I got an epidural with pitocin, slept through it. When I woke up his head was right there and I pushed him out without problems! also, ultrasound weights are only estimates, they can be a whole pound off. So anything goes. Good lucK

Before you make a decision talk to your doctor...find out the likelihood of your baby being over 9 lbs...and find out if your  baby is that big if that will increase you chance of c-section or if they let you try a vaginal delivery how likely it is that baby will get stuck and end up with a broken clavicle or dislocated shoulder (I've had 2 friends with 9+ lbs babies that had that outcome)...Just know all the risk, do what feels right to you and if things don't go as desired it won't be a complete surprise

So let them scare you in to it... Doctors aren't  Gods they can't  predict the future.  Nor can they predict the actual weight of your baby. My midwife told me 7.5-8 and the doctors said 10 or more he was 8.3.  All natural med free and I didn't tear.

Go with you gut don't let them induce you or scare you in to it.. You vagina/ cervix  is designed to have babies it will open your baby isn't ready yet.

I had a nine pound baby med-free at 40w1d. If you don't want to be induced tell them so. You have the right to refuse. You are the patient and you are in charge. Your body can handle it. They can't force you. And by the way, there's a very good likelihood that the estimate you got at 36 weeks was wrong - they almost always are.
If it gets to the point that you're 41-42 weeks or over and you still haven't made any progress and decide to change your mind, the easiest and least invasive way to get things going is a vaginal suppository of a medication called cervidil. It might not work as fast as pitocin but it also doesn't have the same risks involved (distress, episiotomy, c-section, etc, etc).

If you don't want to be induced, you don't have too. It's your right to delivery the way you want too. Women have had bigger babies in the past just fine without induction. This is your game and your ball field, don't feel pressured to do anything you don't want to do. My last doctor pressured me into induction and said my baby weighed 7 almost 8 pounds. She came out at 6lb 4oz, and I felt incredibly stupid that I let it happen. If he is worried, he can do stress test and all the other good stuff that goes along with going over your dd. Plus induction hurts a lot worse then natural labor, so ultimately, it is up to you! Good luck, and congrats!!
