I've will never use a play pin as a primary sleeping place for my baby. It's just to hard and unstable for that imo. I do have a pin that has a bassinet, and changing table. I'm going to use that for the first couple of weeks and put it with me around the house ie living room etc so I can keep an eye on thebaby.

Lol agreed.  I think whether sleep or play most need something to pad them. You could def feel the hardware of the bars through my "mat".  I'm sure they leave that up to us to avoid any liability! I'm wondering if I'll be using mine more as play yard this go round to protect little one from my 3 yr old that will be bouncing around too!! For that same reason, I'm more reluctant to use the bassinet feature now and drawn more to idea of barrier of the crib.  Its funny how potentially with two different babies my primary uses could be so opposite. But nonetheless I'm sure it will be used a lot and for that I say, worth having one, to answer the original post question!

We had a crib and received a play yard as a gift.  We tried using the play yard's bassinet attachment, but my daughter did not sleep well in it at all. The pad is way to thin and flimsy. She slept great in her crib. We purchased one that could be transformed to a toddler bed or full bed. While I am planning to buy a bassinet for this baby, most are only good up to about 15 pounds.

Correct to each is own ...... bassinet is great for newborn mine came as a combo as well with changing station witch I will use  for changes and bassinet for my newly born to be portable and next to me .  its not about the bassinet or what it comes with  .  I'll use pin maybe for small
nap 《~. As for play pin itself
I'm more so stating as a (  Primary Sleeping bed ) , it's hard thin and uncomfortable . Use it for whatever ya like , if you buy something extra for bottom than sure , as for the mat it comes with ... ugh yeah NEGATIVE , LOL . Not to mention they are collapsible . (?) Just a thought .

Funny, I never once used mine as a "play yard" so just because its called that doesn't mean thats it's only or sole purpose! Mine also had the bassinet attachment and changing table attachment so it made for a great bedside set up for first few weeks and I could wheel it right out to the living room for naps and always have an eye on baby. I only used bottom when we were on vacations and I completely agree about it not being comfortable as others said. I padded mine also and baby slept fine. Overall though I'd say it was one of our top must have items for usefulness and worth investment.

I have a safe sleeper bassinet that I found at Walmart and it goes on my bed for the first few months and a crib for after he outgrows it. I had one of the combo pack-n-play sets (playpen, changing table, bassinet) with my first 2 and hardly ever used it, never used it as the primary sleeping place though. Each one of my babies has started in a bassinet and then transitioned to a crib. I feel its the safest (most important) and most comfortable options for babies.

Agreed a play yard is not a bed I have the crib in my room & the pack&play with sleeper in the living room, but only for naps.

A play yard is not a bed ... it's a play yard , exactly what it says ... it's not even a mattress it's a thin barley their mat . So no I wouldn't want my baby to sleep in one or toddler .
Now I did buy one that came as a combo with a changing station and portable bassinet , so when my Lil one is first born I'll be using my bassinet so he can be next to me  the play pin is for when he's crawling and sitting up & playing with toys , when mommy needs to cook or something & great for vacation beach days , & I ordered a
MINI CRIB from amazon :) and a mini crib mattress as well . So if your tight on space I'd look into mini crib , just a smaller version of a crib & it converts to a toddler & twin size later down the road . So lots of use .

I bought a convertible crib for our baby so he can have it for a long time it will turn into a toddler bed and then into a full size bed and it was less than 200 bucks at walmart and its really nice! Then I found a play yard/ bassinett on craigslist thats really nice for really cheap for our room for the first few weeks and naps and trips.but I dont think you can go wrong with a convertible crib considerinv how long you will be using it :) good luck

I like bassinets I put it right next to my bed so
All I have to do is peep my head up to check on baby which I'm sure like most moms I do a lot and I have c sections so its easier I dont even have to get out of bed to get the baby for feeding then I also have a play yard for down in the living room that has the bassinet part that u can take out when they get bigger my babies have always liked them better i be had cribs n they never liked them

In Canada sometimes if social services find out yoy are allowing them to only sleep in a play yard you can get in trouble. I know if you are going through the system for any reason they will mot allow it.

Having csections reaching into a crib is hard, that is y I start with the play yard. Plus they sleep so much at first its easy to pull into which ever room I am in.

I put mine in the play yard first 6 weeks or so.  I do buy a mattress for it tho cuz like sonotech said I was worried how comfortable and supportive the other was.  I then switch them into a crib as I think it is more comfortable in the long run and easier to use longer.  Many ppl get ones that convert into toddler beds or even twin beds as well.  I think my sister's turns into a full size bed.  My father in law made ours so it doesn't turn into anything.

I always put my kids in a crib because I didn't want to force them to sleep on a thin,  hard 'mattress.'  I couldn't imagine how a play yard could be comfortable so I thought it was better to get a crib.  On the other hand,  I'm sure there are many babies out there who do sleep in play yards,  so my opinion probably doesn't count lol.

We did a play yard for in our room for the first 3 months, then moved into crib on baby's room.  Still got lots of use out of the play yard during visits, vacations, etc.  Crib mattress doubled as toddler bed mattress too.

I did a play yard just because a crib is so much money nd they grow out of It so fast then you have to turn around and get a big bed for them. My daughter did the play yard and loved it andb in doing the same with my son this time around they are nice easy to put away when you dont want it out and you can travel with it. Just what I think
