UK sure start maternity grant

does anyone know how it works with this £500 grant?? I was claiming income support I had one payment which they have now stopped as am going to be getting a maternity allowence instead birdies this now mean I won't be able to claim the grant?? It's say you get if your expecting your first which I am and then it say if your claiming a benefit but do you have to be getting both i don't understand why they can't make it simple

so they said because I will be entitled to £126 a week am not entitled to claim income support and you have to be claiming a benifit to get the grant so they said I have to wait till she here and try and claim child tax credit then put in for my grant it makes me so angry that it's not easier to get what your entitled to

Ah I got a text yesterday saying they made a decision I'm waiting on letter. But I've already changed over to maternity allowance so probably be in same boat. Which is stupid because they start maternity at 29 weeks yet that's when you claim the grant from??

so I just rang and they said I won't get it as now am not claiming a benefit because they changed me on to maternity allowence I now have to wait till babys here and claim child tax credit which with my die day being 12 th December could take even longer to claim then I might not even be able to get the grant in the time frame it's so ****
