Water?

So im a first-time mom and was told that u shouldn't give your newborn baby water. Then someone else said that only goes for formula fed babies and if I breastfeed I will need to give her water. Which is true? I havent bought any bottles because I m breastfeeding so if I need to give her water I gotta shop. Thanks in advance.

Yes! No water! Breastmilk is seriously like a wonder drug, it's all babies need!

U welkom ar greekmom..
We can all do more research....in addition I will advice us to pls and pls strive to breast feed our babies at least the 1st 3mnths if we can't make 6mnths.breast Milk save them from lots of sickness that may arise after child birth, thou the nipple could be hurting us then, but all we do for our babies is worth doing + it will save us from unnecessary spending and stress.may God bless all mommies.

Its not necessary for breastfeeding moms to give their babies water. Formula fed babies are the ones in need of water. I gave my son two ounces of water right out of the hospital and he drank all of it,seemed to like it alot too

Geekmom1213 is absolutely right. No water. Not until they are much older, like after starting solids at 6 months old. And then only a tiny sip or two.

Geekmom1213 is absolutely correct! No water for babies. Babies can also get water toxicity very quickly (it doesn't take much because they are so tiny) so no water for any reason unless directed by your pediatrician.

deman26 and kjette are absolutely right... and thanks for including links with more information deman! Newborns need every bit of their intake to be for growing. Water fills up tiny tummies with no nutritional value whatsoever giving them less room for the breastmilk or formula they need to grow and thrive. They get plenty of liquid already. NO WATER.

Breastmilk is 88 percent water. Studies show that healthy, exclusively breastfed infants under 6 months old do not need additional fluids, even in countries with extremely high temperatures and low humidity. Offering water before 6 months of age reduces breastmilk intake, interferes with full absorption of breastmilk nutrients, and increases the risk of illness from contaminated water and feeding bottles. - See more at: http://www.aliveandthrive.org/our-focus-areas/exclusive#sthash.PFcuZChH.dpuf

This is one of those situations that your never ever gonna get an answer because everyone feels different.some people wont and some people will. Its the same as spoon feeding. When i had baby 1 & 2 i spoon fed at 3-4 monthd.. by the time i had no3 the doctors said to spoon feed at 6 months. Excuase my french but its all a pile of ****. I swear doctors made up these rules to drive mothers mad.
Personally i bottle fed and breast feed.. but i alwaus gave baby water aswell. I also gave a soother while breast feeding ( also seemly advised against) and ive 3 healthy kids who never had colic , Were never underweight and  slept through the night. :) xx

I was told in my childbirth class not to give a newborn water because it will get all the water it needs from breastmilk/formula

You need to give them water to get them used to taste and also because they get thirsty. Not a lot though. I never knew and with my first at 4 week weighing the sister almost had a heart attack. Not tap water though...where i am from i boiled the water and let it cool down.

I bottle fed and breastfed both my kids I'm not sure my mom was always trying to give my baby's water even though my Dr said it wasn't necessary to much water can cause water intoxication ... I would assume if your drinking lots of water wouldn't you baby have water in the milk.?
