No there's nothing you can do. A c section is usually required because something has gone wrong and the baby needs to be delivered fast. Being generally fit and well would help you cope better if you end up having some marathon 36hr labour, but there's nothing you can do to prevent placenta/umbilical cord/fetal distress issues.
There isn't anything you can do to prevent one. If the doctor says it's needed then it really is.
Absolutely you can!
Exercise (dont be obese or skinny fat), eat healthy, do kegals and other pelvic floor exercises, plan an unmediated birth, deliver at a birth clinic with a nurse practitioner/midwife rather than an MD.....DO NOT INDUCE WITH PITOCIN. Watch documentary "The Business of Being Born" it talks about just this. Good luck :)
Yes you can do a lot! Sometimes a c-section is completely necessarily but in many cases you can avoid it. First, think what kind of Dr. or midwife do you have? If your Dr. likes to avoid them (a lot of doctors find any excuse to make a c-section) thats good news because he or she will do anything to let you have a vaginal birth. Second, don't rush yourself to go to the hospital unless is very far from home. Let the labor starts and meanwhile take a bath with hot water (not too hot), do movements or excersises for your pelvis by yourself or on a gym ball. Listen to your body! Do breathing excercises to work with your contractions. For all of this make a re-search and talk about it with your partner, he or she can help you too. An easy way is to have a Doula with you and your partner that day, she will tell you what to do to avoid some medical but not necessarily ptocedures like pain medicines. She will make to you some massages to deal with pain and contractions. But remember sometimes a c-section is needed. Don't induce your labor unless is completely necessarly!!! This is the first reason c-sections happens, it doesn't let your body work by its natural rhythm. A nuchal cord is not necessarily a reason to make a c-section, not even a breech birth. Find mote info. in acog.org and look for excersices too. Dont let them induce you with pitocin!
It's so important to take medical advice. A friend of mine was so against c section she put her and her baby at risk. It's so important to listen to doctor and expert medical advice. At the end all you want is the baby to arrive safe and well. And to keep yourself safe and well. No doctor or medical team will let you have a c section with out good reason. All going well I hope you have a natural birth.
It doesn't matter how much you exercise or how well you eat or look after yourself, you can't always prevent a c section. Sometimes things happen that are out of your control and you're left with no choice. You can do everything by the book and it still doesn't necessarily mean you're safe from a c section.
Yes, I understand that if needed it cannot/shouldn't be avoided :-) thank you for the answers, everybody!
There's no way to avoid it. My first pregnancy ended in an c section at 27 weeks. That was totally unexpected but necessary. He'll be 6 this year.
There's no avoiding it. I've had 2, about to have my third. I had a c-section because they lost my son's heartbeat and it was at a dangerous level - so I was facing a child with severe lack of oxygen by the time I delivered naturally.. or a healthy child via c-section. It's an easy choice in the moment, I promise you.
