I was similar situation with my son and it was a swallowing problem. His flap doesn't fully close over his wind pipe and it was going into his lungs. Had barium swallow study done and he required it to be thicker for him to swallow it. Good luck mama and little man
Update: took my son back to his dr on. Friday.. He didn't gain any weight so we were sent to the hospital for x ray and ultrasound. . They thought it was Pyloric stenosis.. we were transferred to a children hospital who did another ultrasound and said it wasn't pylori.. so now we are in the hospital waiting for more test in the morning. . Hopefully we will have answer in a few hours! !
Lots of good comments on here. I breastfed my daughter until she was almost 2. It was quite the roller coaster as she spit up often as well in the first few months of life. When I tried to introduce rice cereals we end up in the hospital b/c she was breastfed and had an intolerance to the cereal. A few things that could also be agitating your little dude is that sometimes breastfed babies are getting too much of the watery fore milk and not enough fatty hind milk. Make sure that he is completely emptying your breast before offering the second. And last but not least, I was so upset b/c I had been told that breastfed babies were not supposed to have all of the stomach issues that bottle fed babies blah blah blah.... I have come to learn that a babies digestive system is just so immature that the sphincter muscles are just not strong enough to contain any back up they might experience and therefore will spit up a lot in the begininng. Always go with your gut if you feel that something is wrong but my guess is that your little dude is perfectly fine and just needs a few more months of growing to get passed this phase.
Thank you ladies for all the advice and your story. .. I am taking him back to the dr tomorrow morning to make sure he is gaining weight. . I feel a lot better knowing that it can be just a normal way of life for baby's. . I'm definitely going to take out all diary and hope it helps! ! Thanks again for the stories and advice! !
I think what can happen is that they eat so fast that they get carried away, fill that belly and the excess will come out. It's like us at the end of pregnancy, there is only so much room and then after the belly is filled, we get a little nauseated and throw up. I did anyway. So, it could be related to that. My first son spit up like a champ . . . the thing my pediatrician told me is that it always looks like so much but really isn't. She said to spill a little milk on the counter and see how it spreads and fans out and looks like so much more than you really spilled. That this is the way it is with spit up. It looks like a lot but isn't often really that much.
good luck
My daughter's had pyloric stenosis. And I couldn't feel any lump on her. But the procedure was quick and now she's a healthy 9 yr old
I thought my son had acid reflux because, like your son, he spit up ALL the time. I got him put on zantac and he still spit up like crazy. I found out that he was super sensitive to dairy and had to cut it out of my diet. My son is now 18 months and is still unable to have dairy. Eggs can be a culprit too. If you would rather adjust your diet then put him on meds its worth it, it took about a week to notice a difference but it was like night and day. You could even just have an oversupply of milk and a very healthy eater that doesn't know when to stop. Hang in there and don't concern yourself too much as long as he is peeing and popping regularly then everything is fine. Don't stress, you got this!
The biggest concern would be pyloric stenosis. If there is an olive like lump you can feel on the abdomin near the belly button go to the hospital. Other than that acid reflux or over stimulation are the most common triggers. My daughter threw up every bottle I fed her while the TV was on. Freaked me out
Mention it again to dr. And she what, she says tell her it really concerns u
He is only breastfeeding no bottle yet. . AND the spit up does come out fast. .
Is he projectiling when he spits up.?
I'm still expecting but my goddaughter who is 5 weeks old has Been spitting up everything she had been eating during week 3-4. So two questions for you, does spit up when u breastfeed? Or when you give bottle? When she has been sucking bottle she ate too fast and a lot 4 ounces. So after just breastfeeding and reducing amount to 2 ounces she has been doing better but more frequent feeding of course.
My daughter did that. It scared the crap outta me. Her spit up would come out her nose. Hey doc said it was normal too. She's now a healthy 2 yr old. Just be calm. Being a first time mom is scary. Just watch him. I'm sure he's getting enough food! :-)
