Has anyone used the nitrous oxide as a pain reliever

I'll be 38 weeks this Friday. Getting close.  I know I don't want to use epidural. The thought of it just scares me. So I've been reading up on other pain relievers. And the nitrous oxide sounds like a good one. Just want some opinions on how or if it even helped.

I used it with my first. I personally think it make me too dependent on it and I want able to concentrate on pushing. This time I plan on using heating pads and breathing to help with the pain.

Hi Masoak the gas and air you just hold it and breath it in. You take it away when you want too.

I personally did not like it I found it too distracting..I'm the type of person when I'm fixated on pain or something I want to concentrate on that and breathe thru it..having anything around my face I want to tear off..other people love it tho :) I'm an epidural girl

I've had gas and air a couple times, the last time I had it it made me so spaced out and removed from everything I didn't like it. I don't even remember my son coming out because I was so spaced because of the gas, I won't be having it again because of it. BUT it doesn't stay in your system long, give it a go and if it helps continue and if it doesn't and you don't like the feeling just stop :)

Hi the gas and air is good but can make you sick when you not used to it. It makes you feel lightheaded and drunk helps with the pain. The problem with the epidural you sometimes can't feel when to push and can tear something down there. That happened to me with my first. My second I was 9 the in line for one, had baby before my turn. My third I had tens machine and gas and air, was good for pain but not at the end. Asked for epidural but few mins later needed to push so did not need it. This time just going to have gas and air and try not to ask for epidural. If you want to deliver the placenta fast after having the baby think about having the injection in the leg. 20 mins later that will easily slip out of you with no pain.
