Same thing going on with my 7 day old baby girl. I called her doc and he said first try a gentle tummy massage about 2 fingertips below the belly button. If that doesn't work try 1/2 oz of prune juice mixed with 1/2oz of water, and lastly try the q-tip with vaseline. My baby went with the prune juice but I had to give her two doses of that. I only recently read about bicycling the legs so I didn't try that but that might be an option you'd want to try first as well. The BM after the prune juice was no joke LOL, all up her back and in the blanket.

I worked as a pedi nurse for a while,  please don't give anything. The suggestion for tummy massage (rub tummy in circular motion clockwise) and bicycling the legs is good.  Before six months you need to call your pediatrician.

My third baby had this happen she hadn't gone in 6 days I felt to helpless. Buy some suppositories cut the into really small slivers like 1/8 th of an inch and she should get things moving. Good luck

I had this problem with my first child  and if you are breast feeding  drink a whole  lot of Water before you breast feed and that should help the baby it worked with my son  I was having to drink about a gallon of water or more a day so my baby wouldn't be consipated

Check a rectal temp... A lot of times the little bit of stimulation can help them pass stools

NO karo syrup. No prune juice. No other juice, no water. All baby should take in before six months of age is breastmilk, period. (Formula if breastmilk is unavailable). Gentle infant tummy massage (ask an experienced pediatrician, nurse educator, or lactation consultant to show you how) and "bicycling" the legs can make a huge difference. For many newborns it is perfectly normal to go several days before bowel movements though for many others it is normal to poop a few times a day.
In extreme cases (as determined by your child's pediatrician) it can help to coat the end of a q-tip in petroleum jelly and insert it no more than 1/2 inch into the rectum, gently wiggle it around, and remove. This can help with constipation. But please consult a doctor with your concerns.
