Thx ladies! I was worried, but now I feel confident that it can be done:).
My colostrum came.out with the pump just fine and my supply came in 3 days later full force!! I was engorged big time. The lactation consultant put him toy Breast and even through he only suckle for a second it instantly made my Breast release and not be so hard. I immediately put him to my other one and it did the same. He only.would nurse for a second before his oxygen would drop so I didn't get the pleasure of nursing but once I put him to both breasts the milk.flowed from the pump great!
I've pumped exclusively for 3 of my kids. The only time they were breastfed was while we were in the hospital. As soon as I got home I started pumping right away. I was able to pump exclusively for a year with each one. Never had a problem. I'm going to do the same with this baby.
I pumped exclusively because my son was in the hospital for a month since he was a preemie. He never got a good latch but I wanted him to have the best! I used the Medela pump in style and got a hands free pumping bustier on amazon. It made it so my hands didn't have to be holding the flanges. So before I brought him home I would.pump every 2 hrs day or night for 20 mins. Then when I brought him home I continued to pump every two hours during the day then at night I'd pump when he would wake. I'd set him on his bopping pillow and feed him while I pumped and I'd rub his belly and face and feet so we'd get the bonding too. Then after a few months I went to every 3 hrs and 15 min sessions then I went to every 4 hrs at around 7 months and stopped pumping at night since he was sleeping through most of the night. My first morning pump I'd pump for 20 mins cuz I had a lot of milk. I'm proud to say I pumped a whole year and had enough milk.left for several months after he turned one. I never had to use supplements either. I attribute it took sticking to a schedule. I liked the lanisoh bads for freezing. The medela bags had a weird smell to them. After while it really wasn't that hard and it became my routine. I even got a little sad when I quit. I did lose all the baby weight thanks to the calorie burn too! Good luck!
I'm also curious of this. Did any of you moms who exclusively pumped have to naturally breastfeed for the first month until your supply came in?
