Only sponge bath until the cord falls off as it can cause infection. I always bathed my babies every night and lotioned them twice a day and my girl never has dry skin... it honestly was mostly to give her a schedule for bed time. good luck my dearand if you're worried you can always ask your pediatrician

It has been over 10 years for me, but I bathed my first about every 2 days with a very mild soap (Neutrogena facial soap).  I used that for about 3-4 months and switched to Gerber baby soap that they no longer make.  My first broke out in a full body rash with Johnson's baby soap.
Once he was older, I bathed him around once every other day.  Their skin is so sensitive and loses moisture quickly.   Also read that you should not use baby lotion for the first few weeks, it destroys the natural oils in their skin.

Good question, I didn't actually think about that and am also curious to hear what people say.
