birthing plan?

Tell me about yours :)
So far mine is:
-delay cutting/clamping the umbilical cord for as long as possible
-allow my husband to cut the cord (if he wants to lol)
-have either me or my husband be there when our daughter is getting weighed and bathed
-epidural ASAP and I need THE BEST anesthesiologist on staff because I have a HORRIBLE phobia of needles

Lol that's it :)

I just want to say that I think its great to see more ftm opt for natural labor. That being said, don't be disappointed in yourself if things change just remember that your state of mind changes when you are in pain and under stress. The best thing to keep in mind with birth plans is that plans change, stay flexible. I hope most of all that you have an experience that is memorable. Good luck!

These have been great and very helpful. I'm a ftm and was just talking to my husband tonight about setting up our birthing plan. I found a great model on thebump.com that breaks down all scenarios and gives you diff options for each, like a checklist almost. I have printed that out and will mark off the ones I want and add any of my own comments I feel necessary. Right now I don't have many thing figured out yet but what I do is:
*epidural when I ask for it
*cutting the cord after  it stops pulsating
*husband will cut cord
*direct skin to skin contact right away
*breastfeeding asap
*husband or I will be with baby at all times

Wyattsmom2015 I am a little jealous that you have a birthing center near you. That's great my state is not midwife friendly. Your plan sounds amazing and very similar to my last birth

This is my second and I'm planning an all natural home birth. My midwives understand that I am using the hypnobirthing technique during labor and they are not to offer me pain meds or ask anything about a 'pain scale'.
*No interventions unless absolutely necessary- such as forceps, vacuum.
* If I tear it will be natural, no episotomy
*Will deliver in whatever position is comfortable, not laying on back.
*As per hypnobirthing technique, will "breath my baby down" and not do forced pushing.
*Husband will cut the cord.
*Skin to skin and then breast feeding immediately after birth.

Oh and with my original plan the baby never leaves me, I give baby first bath, we go home in less than 8 hours after baby is born. All of my kids can be with me during delivery and partipate. My midwife comes to my house to check on baby and give vitamin shot and and blood work on baby.

I am planning to deliver at a birthing center as most of you know. I don't have to write down my birthing plan because I will basically be on my own. My midwife checks me in the observation room and hooks me up to get a feed on baby and contractions to put in my file. Then she lets me in my birthing suite which is awesome. It has a living/dinning room with a tiny mini kitchen-  there is a couch, very large tv, dinning table with chairs, mini fridge, sink, microwave and coffee maker (even a basket of toys for children with birthing mother). There is a bedroom with a normal queen sized bed (pillowtop) and a wooden baby cradle and rocking chair. The bathroom is nice with large tub with jets, separate shower and nice sink. Everything is very beautifully decorated and there is a couple of rooms to choose from.

Then we will be left to labor and the midwife comes in every so often like 30 minutes to hour to get a heart rate on baby with a portable Doppler. When it is time to push she will come in to deliver baby.

They do not break water, that is left to break on its own during delivery. I can deliver where ever and however I want. I can squat, be in bed and deliver in tub. They have birthing balls of different sizes to use, rope hanging from the cilling so that you can pull on it while squatting to deliver and anything else you can think of.

I Am gbs positive so I have to get there early so I can get a bag of antibiotics while in observation. And if I am forced to go to a hospital due to unforseen circumstances then I do have a written birth plan that covers every situation and how it should be handled, even c section. The hospital staff will not be happy but my midwife and Dr will do everything in their power to follow my plan unless my baby or my own life are endangered. My plan is summarized in two pages and if needed it is detailed in about eight pages.

Good luck to all of you it sounds like most of you are ready to go. I really like hearing your plans.

I have no plan at all this is my third! I had no plan with first Dd and was fine and labour went well! With dd2 I had made a birthing plan one of the things on it was no epidural I ended up in so much pain trying to stick to my plan and thinking about it now I put so much pressure on myself to follow it and every time I didn't I felt I failed! So this time I think I'll just go with the flow! Obviously I will stick to everything that is right for baby afterwards like skin to skin and breastfeeding asap but as far as labour goes I'll do what I feel like when I feel like it and hubby can just follow my lead

@aliciasaidwhat. It is actually easier and better healing if you tear verses being cut. I suggest you read on tearing vs cutting also I suggest you watch the YouTube video forced episotomy.
This is my thrid I have not had an episotomy and I have only tore a little with my first. You got it girl its great you are getting all this info ahead of time.

As crazy as it might sound to some my birth plan is very "light" per say. I don't really have a plan honestly. Just go with it.  If i can manage without pain meds great if i cant thats awesome too. If i can walk and shower through labor awesome if i need to be stationary thats ok too. Vaginal delivery is ideal but if a c section happens oh well i will manage. The only things i know for sure if possible are delayed cord cutting I want my boyfriend to cut the cord immediate skin to skin for an hour with breast feeding and we need to present for all testing. One of us will be with her anytime she has to go anywhere for any reason.  I am pretty go with the flow and I am just going to let nature take its course and whatever happens happens

Ooh! The last time I wore a hospital gown, they gave me two lol. One for the front, one for the back. I read up on it though, and I think it would be nice to have my own! I was thinking and bout having someone make me one out of one of my old bedsheets. I like the idea of autonomy and individuality, especially since I'm giving birth at a military hospital.

Now I vaguely read about vaginal fetal monitoring. What's that about? Sounds bad to me. I don't want any extra attention to my hoohah!

Keep the birth plans coming!

I've got a midwife who understands and trusts me so thankfully I don't have to be super specific. Most of this I don't even have to explain to her.
Med-free is a definite, no meds will be offered, I will not have an IV inserted unless if necessary if I am GBS+. Intermittent external fetal monitoring only, no monitors hooked to me to limit my movement. I'll spend as much time in the tub as I want, unless labor progression slows or stops. I'll change positions when I want, supported if necessary. Nobody comes in the room who didn't arrive with me. Skin to skin immediately after delivery, delayed cord clamping, hubby will cut the cord. I haven't yet decided who will get to do the big announcement (it's a boy!/it's a girl!) but that will probably be my husband as well, especially if he decides to catch. Baby doesn't leave the room. Period. I will bathe my own baby, weighing and measuring will be done in the room, if the hearing test can't be done in room one of us will accompany him or her into the nursery for the test. The lactation consultant on staff will check up on us at least once and schedule a follow up appointment to check latch and weight gain. We'll push for a discharge as soon as we're both cleaned up and comfy.

I'm buying me a pretty pusher gown.
Hospital goes are so uncomfortable and make me feel like I can't breath and since I wanna walk around I wanna be covered. This is my 4th baby so I am doing things that I didn't do with my others but I'm so happy my doctor is on board with me! Congrats to all of you ladies and have a safe birth !!

just comfort...hospital gowns are open in the back and i do not like the way the feel. i just have an old comfy nighty that if i toss after i wont be mad. and im a ftm too so the instinctive pushing might be a bust but i think if im not medicated my body will take over and know what to do.

Oh, and why are some of you opting for your own birthing gown vs hospital? Isn't it gonna get all messed up?

Definitely going to add walking around/portable IV on mine! Immediate skin to skin contact, didn't realize I had to explain that I wanted to breastfeed in the plan, but that too! Idk about instinctive pushing since this is my first. I need positive reinforcements and direction lol. I'll have to see how I feel after my birthing class about position. I heard squatting is the best since gravity works WITH you, but I just can't imagine how that works. I'll have to ask!

Let's keep the birth plans coming! This post is packed full of knowledge!

delayed cord clamping/cutting allows your baby the chance to get an increase  blood volume.1/3 of your babies blood is still in the placenta so if you wait even 22nd minutes your baby can recover alot of its own blood. which helps increase red blood cell count, stem cells and helps with immunity, also helps with iron stores for baby and prevent anemia.
