No epidural in the tub?! Holy crap, that is good to know! I don't think I'm capable of a natural birth, I'm much to resentful of a person. I would loom that over my child's head for the rest of their life! Just saying.
No you can't for a couple reasons. Number one being that the catheter in your back can't get wet. It would leave you wide open to infection. Secondly because when you have an epidural you have to be on the moniters constantly and they cannot be in the water. Even iv's have to be covered in the tub. But I only thought I needed an epidural for about 5 minutes before my daughter was born. The tub really helped to relax my body and allow me to deal better with the pain
For those of you that have had water births can you still have the epidural in the tub?
I had two "regular" hospital births with epidurals and my last was a water birth and I plan to have a water birth this time as well. My labor went so much faster and much less painful than the first two. The water didn't take my pain away but it made it manageable and I delivered in 4 minutes, no tearing or anything like that. The water supports your body and adds counter pressure to everything.
I am hoping for a water birth, we were given all the info at my last appt and my husband and I are both on board. Waterbirthing is said to help with relaxation and pain relief.
I want to have a natural birth versus having the epidural and having half of my body numb during and after the birth.
But its not for everyone,to each her own, you've gotta go with what feels right to you.
Agreed! The video i watched the poor woman was in so much pain and the nurse was scooping poop out of the water. If you were meant to give birth in water you would have been a fish. But each to their own i suppose
I'm planning on using a birthing tub. You can always use the tub to help ease labor pains and then get out of the tub right before delivery so you don't have to deal with blood in the water.
I'm a ftm, and I am planning on just having a "regular" birth at the hospital. But I do hear that water births are much more relaxing and help with the pain. I agree with you about the water, it kinda grosses me out also. Especially if the baby was to have his/her first bowel movement, then you're swimming in poo water... nasty lol
