I had this happen with my first pregnancy. I was always at a healthy weight before pregnancy but when I unexpectedly became pregnant I didn't quite know how to handle the cravings and became an emotional eater. I ended up gaining close to 70 pounds throughout my pregnancy, about 20 of those my first trimester. My doctor never commented on my weight gain so I didn't worry about it until after the baby was born. I definitely wouldn't try to lose weight while pregnant. You can start being more aware of what your eating and try to do some exercises approved by your doctor. I wouldn't start a strenuous workout routine right now if you're not used to it but walking is always good. I'm happy to say I lost all my baby weight pretty easily after my daughter was born and am pregnant with my 2nd. This pregnancy I knew what to expect and have had a much slower and healthier weight gain. Don't stress over it just be more aware of what you're eating and you can focus on weight loss after your baby is here. If you're very concerned just talk to your doctor to get some advice but it really shouldn't affect your baby at all. Just might be at little harder on your body. I had a lot of aches and pains during the end of my last pregnancy that I think we're partially due to the extra weight...but baby girl was perfect and like I said, weight came off. I think breastfeeding helped with that as well. But congratulations on your pregnancy and just focus on being healthy for you and baby and you will be fine.

I was close to that starting weight/height for my first and I gained roughly 40 the entire pregnancy which was about right according to my OB. But he said I could've gained 50lb and still been healthy.
Some women do put on more in the first half than others and some just gain more weight it's nothing to worry about.

If you are concerned I would ask your dr how many calories a day you need to eat. You could try keep g yourself at just the minimum calories needed, or close cause well all have cravings:)

Megan_07 is totally right though it comes off and with breastfeeding.
Just watching your diet a little and little work-out after baby and any extra weight drops off for most women. It takes time but it comes off.

I was also told breast feeding helps, I just wasn't sure if it was good for the baby so thank you for your comment :)

I was a bit underweight when I got pregnant with my first maybe 105is and was trying to put on weight before I got pregnant. I put on almost 80lbs during the pregnancy weighing 185 the day i had him. My metabolism just sunk. I was probably eating about half the calories I did before getting pregnant. My doc did mention it a few times but more as are you eating healthy or drinking a milkshake everyday and eating sticks of butter lol. She didn't seem worried. This pregnancy I'm on track to end at about the same weight but never got back down to where I was so much more 'normal' gain. Just talk to your doc and make sure your eating well :)

I don't drink milk but I do take calcium pills do you think that should even it out ... I was just told it's not good to put on a lot of weight -I can't remember why so I was a bit nervous

That should have said eating healthy and *not drinking a milkshake everyday and eating sticks of butter... anyway I don't drink cows milk either and get plenty of calcium other ways. If your worried ask your doc. And yes back some time ago it was a big no no to gain too much weight and they would put you on a diet this is no longer the case for everyone. There are always people outside of the normal range. If your doc isn't worried about the gain then I wouldn't be but if you are concerned talk to them and see what they say :)

I'm 5'7" and I was approximately 123 pounds at my pre-pregnancy weight. I had my Dr.'s appointment on Tuesday and I weighed 157 pounds. I was a bit shocked and I think the scale must be off. Lol I'm 33 weeks and 2 days and that's usually the weight I am when I give birth at 40 weeks. This is my 6th baby. My Dr. never mentioned anything to me about my weight gain. You can eat well now and try to limit your calorie intake but I wouldn't try to lose any weight until after the baby is born. The other posters are correct...breastfeeding is the key. I breastfeed for at least a year and with my 5th I breastfed him for 18 months. The longer you can breastfeed, the better.

Breastfeeding is great for baby and helps us lose baby weight. However I was unfortunate and wsd not able to produce. I tried everything for about 6 weeks. After that i gave up and went to only formula i struggled for 2 years to lose the weight and was within 15 pounds of pre pregnancy weight. However now im pregnant again. I just wanted to share my story because sometimes breastfeeding isnt possible. I also had 2 pregnant friends who struggled to breastfeed as well. I pray tou don't go through those struggles. Its no fun
