breech vaginal birth...

Im having trouble finding alot of info on breech vaginal births. Just wondering if anyone has done this successfully or is considering it? And what information you may have been given about it. Pros and cons etc.  My midwife is on holidays and have been given a fill-in who doesn't give alot of info. Thanks in advance

If they are breech and going to attempt delivery they need to be butt down small and a lot of extra fluid.  My last was breech and due to the fact he was almost 9 lbs and not a lot of room to love with low fluid ended up with csection.

Ik this isn't actually helpful info. But I watched a birth video on YouTube of a, women in england who was pregnant with triplets and had all three natural including the third who was breech abd cane out butt first. It did suffer done stress but after a bit of oxygen and care was perfectly healthy like the other two ! :-) if nothing else I thigh it was a good story. Good luck in w.e you decide. I hope for the best for you and little one.

Im 37 weeks (considered full term here) yes other methods hace veen tried unsuccessfully, bub is iugr and I am liw in fluid which makes it harder to turn, they have booked me in for an ecv (manually turning bub) but they don't think it will work due to those issues  so I have been told to keep my options open which is why im asking :)

I too was debating on trying a vaginal birth when my son was breech. When I had told my Mom this, she lost it lol I then found out 2 of my cousins had breech babies and in both cases, the babies ended up with broken bones :( however, my neighbour just did a home birth and her baby was breech and both mommy and baby are fine!

Thanks.  At first I thought that may be the case but the more  I speak to her and another midwife also the more I consider it. From my understanding there isn't really an increased risk of death and if anything does go wrong it would automatically end up being an emergency cesarean anyway. No I don't think you are being the devils advocate, as the same thoughts have crossed my mind also. As I said above alot of women automatically opt for a cesarean when bub is breech which is why i believe that there isnt much info on it. But i do know it has been done safely before, and if I believe that I am able to do it safely also, I will. I just want to find out as much as possible so I feel positive enough to make a decision I won't regret.   Thank you for the link.  Will do a bit more reading :)

Just wondering how far along you are? if  they're considering attempting to turn the baby have you thought of trying some alternative methods to encourage the baby to turn? both acupuncturist and chiropractorsb have some techniques that could be helpful

My first was posterior and they had to suction him out. The forceps were at the ready as well. I was happy to go for it despite knowing it would hurt a zillion times more. I'm way too scared of surgery ;)

I'm curious what your midwife's reasons are for recommending it? Do you know her well enough to know she's not doing so in her best interest? Sorry being the devil's advocate here.

Personally, when I read the words: increased risk of death, it settles the argument. I wouldn't risk it. Going natural with mine UNLESS breech happens.

Oh yes, I have heard of that. but I will definitely do a bit more research. Thanks.  Not alot of women try, alot opt for cesarean which is why I can't find alot of info I guess. But any info I can find will help weigh up the options.  Ta :)

You're welcome
The technical term for it is hip dysplasia if you'd like to look up further information.

Thats ok, and thankyou. I am already 'high risk', baby is small and im low in fluid, they are going to try to turn baby but they aren't confident in doing so because of the above reasons it makes it more dangerous for them to try and less likely to work. I have taken all of that into consideration though. Thankyou again

There can be damage done to the hips during birth if baby is born breech. Most times breech babies, especially girls, need to have a hip ultrasound done at a few weeks old to make sure everything is okay, and some end up in braces or casts for quite some time.

All I know is that it can be done the risk are very high and u or ur baby can die trying it. But in the oder side y ur midwife haven't try 2 get him in position there are some Dr. ND midwife that put the babies in position it does hert bought they do it they just put their hands on ur belly and squeeze a little bit and turn them around if they turn back 2 breach and they have time 2 try again they do it again if is labor already 4 to long they'll do c section

Im aware of the distress it may cause. And the reason im asking is because my midwife actually is recommending that I do consider it as an option. I would not put my babies life in danger if I thought it would cause distress. It also happens with 'normal' births and cesarean also. So I don't consider it any more or less dangerous just because it MAY happen.  Once again,  thanks for the input, but im actually looking for a bit more than that. *Hoping that doesn't come across as rude* apologies in advance if it does.  Just looking for more info. Thanks anyway

Your baby may become distress..anything can go wrong..the baby's heart beat can drop along with other complications..i know its been done before but if doctors thought it was safe to give birth breech vaginaly ,most of the c sections wouldn't happen.. they know what's best. Good luck

My mom had my brother ( her first child) breech vaginally. He was butt first, with his toes up by his ears. She did have an epidural, but said it wasn't as bad as you would think, and both her and my brother were completely fine with no complications

CAN- cause stress on baby. But it CAN happen in a 'normal' birth also. And yes it can be done, there are dr's that have done it before. It's just not 'ideal'  This is what im trying to weight up for myself atm, just wanting to find out more. thanks for your input anyway. :)
