Not necessarily. If all is well then you don't have to get another.

My doctors have always does one per trimester if all is good but I know a lot of doctors who don't even do that many. In my case this time around, I get one every 6 weeks but I see him every 2 weeks so he can check the baby's heart rate.

No i think in America its just Dr preference. Over here in UK we get a dating scan at roughly 12w and an anatomy scan at at 20w or so, then you don't get anymore unless theres medical necessity x

The only ultrasound they are really supposed to do is the anatomy scan around 20 weeks. If they do more its really up to the doctors discretion if they feel a need to do them.

Normally they do an early one then an anatomy scan. My doc said they would only do two the entire pregnancy unless they needed to do another one. My daughter would not sit still during the anatomy scan so Im getting another one done in 6weeks.
With my first pregnancy though i had an ultrasound roughly every week to two weeks throughout my entire pregnancy. But i was having complications.
Healthy pregnancies they don't need to do as many ultrasounds.

In total when this is over ill have 5 ultasounds. Ive had 2 that cost extra, I got a peekaboo gender scan and the 3d ultrasound ill have towards my third trimester.  Otherwise I would have had three in all, and no complications with mine. If you do have complications you have more ultrasounds.

I've had some what of a complicated pregnancy specially towards the end and I can't even count how many ultrasounds total. And yes healthy pregnancies don't require many at all.
