dog and babies

Anyone have experience with bringing a baby home and introducing them to the dog? I have a 4 year old springer spaniel and I want this transition to go smooth. He is very much my baby now so I'm worried how he is gonna feel when he is not getting all of my attention.

I have a 10yr old jack russell, he is my baby since he was 8 wks. When I brought my daughter home he was such a bad boy. We had to muzzle him because he kept trying to attack my daughter. She's 10 months now, he still hates her but doesn't try to hurt her he just keeps his distance wherever she goes he just walks away and tries to avoid her as much as possible

I have 9 y.o. Toy Poodle and he's been nuts and extremely disgruntled since I've been pregnant....I'm concerned about the transition....but I'm taking notes on the advice and suggestions you all have offered.

When you come home from the hospital mama should come in first and greet the puppy without the baby, after a few minutes daddy can come in with baby to introduce. Make sure dog is calm when baby comes in and that he/she stays as calm as possible. My dogs were very excited to finally meet the baby when we brought our daughter home... They had their noses all up in her car seat, but if they were too pushy or too excited my husband would take the baby into the kitchen where they are not allowed. I have a Labrador and husky both large dogs so it will be even easier to handle your pup. It's fun to see how they react once they finally get to see what the hype is all about! My daughter is 11 months now and she loves her puppies! They haven't changed a bit they're still my fur babies! Good luck!

I have a rottweiler who was 2 at the time and she was by my side the entire time I was pregnant with my son and when we brought him home she was excited to see him and very protective of him. She still is and he is 3. They bonded so well she didn't care when he was trying to pull up on her or poke her eye. She just licked him and laid there with him. Any where he went she went. I'm sure she will be like that with the new baby and that makes me happy because she is an awesome, loving, and big dog.

Yea, I've  a good idea is to bring something from the hospital (while baby is still in the hospital) that has baby's scent on it and let them sniff it to get use to baby's smell before bringing baby home.

My dog was the same age when we brought our daughter home. She was very skeptical and kept her distance but she was extremely protective of baby. What I did was lay one of the baby's swaddling blankets on her bed so she was always around the smell of our baby. It seemed to help.
