flat nipples

When i had my 1st baby i had decent nipples protuding till i was pregnant. Bei g a first time mother i was too naive to ask about nipples to anyone.. so after my son arrived my breasts were full of milk and became flat. No nipples. Just the dark aerola with milk leaking everytime he cried. And it was difficult bcos even though i expressed milk and try massaging my breasts i was always in pain. After a mn th and a half of extreme efforts i finally managed to have a small part of my nipples protude. Just abt on the margin for him to latch on.
Now im 28.4 weeks pregnant with my second. And im scared that i will have to face the same nipple problem. Bcoa rite now the nipples are protuding but not so much. And once the milk comes im sure they will be flat again. I just cant go thru that trauma again. Bcos seriously havi g my baby latched onto me really relaxed me and made my breasts lighter, it was never the same as exprrssing milk for me.

i still have time. If anyone of u experienced anythg like this or heard of sumone in similar situation pls help me.. im really high on breastfeeding. And i want to be prepared this time. Oh! I used nipple shield too. But its a lot of work sterlising the breast pump and shields after every use. As i wud be iny confinement period of 40 days i wont be able to do it myself. And it just bugs me to depend on others forthese things.  So PLEASE HELP.

I had inverted nipples and either hand expressed to thenpoint the nipple would come out good enough or would pump before hand to get the out. I never liked the idea of me using a nipple shield butnit could be helpful if your open to it.

I have inverted nipples so mine are flat all the time. With my first pregnancy I used a nipple shield to get him to latch and feed but my son had issues breastfeeding that we couldn't get past so I had to stop. With my second on I used a nipple shield but only long enough for her to latch and suck a few times then took it off and latched her straight to breast. With my nipple shield I didn't sterilize it after each use I just washed it with soap and water and sterilized it every week. I also had more than one shied. Good luck.

I had that problem with my first and the lactation nurse told me to use nipple shields to help with that. Im on baby #2 and I dont think I will have that problem this time. Id always had somewhat flat nipples prior to kids but now they naturally are out more.
