I posted and haven't gotten any responses, I see mom's taking about inducing labour on here all the time. My question is, if you do natural methods to induce is it more common to feel contractions first or have your water break?

We live 3 hours from the hospital so my for sure way of knowing I'm in labor is to have my water break, I want to try home methods to induce but not if it's more common to start contractions and not water breaking.

A friend drank castor oil. She started with contractions, her water didn't break until later at the hospital. Baby never came, and after over 24 hours she finally had an emergency csection. Do be careful about induction techniques.

It may depend on how far along you are. I was 40+5 had contractions for almost a day before my water broke. My friend was 42 weeks and her water broke and she didn't get contractions for 2 more days after that (she was closely monitored and negative for strep b).

My second i lived just under 2 hours from the hospital the minute i thought i was having contractions i went to the hospital, because i lived so far away they were happy for mw to have come and stay until the baby was to be born which unexpectedly happened only an hour after arriving at the hospital i was so lucky because by the time i was to push i had felt hardly any contractions even though i was having them

Wow that is crazy to have to travel so far!! Is there anyway that you can stay in like a hotel or some friends or family that live closer to the hospital? That would have me all nervous and scared to even go into labour being so far away!

There isn't a different hospital, that's why we're traveling 3 hours.

Hello,
I had a completely natural birth my first pregnancy. I woke up at 3 am in labor contractions about 25 mins apart. Right before I started to push they broke my water and 3 pushes later my baby boy slid into the world! Everyone is different though. This time I plan on having my baby at home screw the hospital all together(unless its necessary of course). Every 5 minutes a doc is coming in sicking his fingers up my vagina....hello umm this HURTS!!!

Real contractions are patterned and regular. Braxtons are scattered with no pattern.

Yeah, I saw that percentage. Contractions seem so unsure because they could be Braxton hicks or real ones. Even then a lot of times hospitals turn you away because their not dialated enough. Thanks for the responses!

I didnt try any methods to induce labour but went into labour on my own.  I was 4 cms dialated before i saw my dr and i had contractions. My water had to be broken late in labour.  I wouldnt rely on your water breaking as your sign to head to the hospital!

With my first my water didn't break even fully dilated so they broke it, my second I was induced and it didn't break until I was 6 or 7 cm dialated

Usually contractions but u can end up with a contraction that's strong enough to break ur water.

I think it can happen either way. I was induced so i cant tell you from experience but i have heard and had people tell me of their experience. My moms neighbor was having strong contractions but she wasnt dilating. Eventually when she did they still gad yo break her water. My sis in law had her water break first both of her pregnancies. Its just really up to your body.
