Running during pregnancy

Hi,
I'm pregnant with our first child and like any new mom to be have many questions. I'm an RN but I work ICU ADULTS ONLY, this is very foreign territory. We have done plenty of research and focused lots on exercise during pregnancy since we are pretty physically active. Just last year I was competing in triathlons, I would like to continue to train. I won't compete since its very hot outside in FL and I have my safety concerns with swimming (getting kicked in the stomach) and biking (having someone run me off the road). I was told by my midwife that shouldn't run, and use elliptical and other cardio machines instead, she was worried about my pelvic ligaments. When I asked about weights she said they were fine as long as I didn't do it for muscle building and no abdominal work. Lunges n squats I've heard are tough on the round ligament when pregnant, yet she did not warn me against them. Any literature out there on the subject? Anything up to date?

I would not say run, but walking on a Tread Mill would be safer, I am a runner to and this is my first child, so I miss running but I try to help it by walking on the Tread Mill. That is what my doctor recommended.

If your currently a runner you can still run (not threw your whole pregnancy but at least til about 5/6 months then my on said to bring it down to a jog and a brisk walk wince you hit the 8th month, it all has to do with your heart rate they don't want it to be above 145

I've ran throughout my pregnancy and have steered clear of weights. I feel like I'd be more at risk of over working myself. Having obvious joint laxity while pregnant can cause weight training to be difficult but strong muscles can only benefit you with the softening, by holding things together. I've only read positive things about weight training but I'm sorta nervous about how clumsy I can be. I haven't seen anything about round ligament pain connected to a specific excessive but after a week of running for me I can feel soreness there. Sorry if I didn't help much. Good luck on your journey and congrats!
