nervous for rhogam shot

I go in on wed to get the rhogam shot. I thought it would be like getting a vaccine but my ob said they don't do it at the office and that I had to go to labor and delivery to get it. Why would they do that?  Do they have to monitor the baby? Is it more then just a shot? Do I have anything to worry about?

It's just a shot in the butt. I just got mine about 2wks ago. This is my 3 baby! Nothing to worry about. But, it is very important for the health of you and your baby that you get the shot. And you will get another one when you go to the hospital for delivery.

Thank you everyone! That's why I thought it was like a vaccine, because it helped block your body from mounting an immune response to the babies blood. It just made me nervous needing to go to l&d for it. Your probably right about them not stocking it

It has nothing to do with bacteria. It's given to all rh- moms, not juat A- so your body doesn't develop antibodies to the rH+ antigen in baby's blood. If that happens your blood will literally try to attack and hemolyze baby's blood cells which can lead to fetal death or something known as rhesus syndrome

^ it has nothing to do with bacteria.   Its also any blood type that's negative.   What happens is:  if your baby's blood type is positive & your blood mixes, your body can create antibodies which then attack all future babies that also have a positive blood type.  If your partner also has negative blood type, you don't even need the shot because there's no risk.

I get that shot because I'm  A negative which I'm sure you are as well. It's helps stop the bacteria in our body to the baby. You get this only with pregnancy.  A negative people tend to Cary more bacteria then other blood types. Nothing to be afraid of but def. As questions, but you will be fine :)

Its just a regular shot.   It's kinda weIrd that your ob doesnt do it at the office.   Perhaps they just don't have them in stock.  You can get the shot either in your arm or your butt.
