I also had the original idea to go all natural cause I was so afraid of the needle. Well, I was not one of those that quickly and easily dilates. The pain was so bad before the anestesia that I did not know anymore what was happening around me. Compared to the fear of the next contraction, the fear of the needle was really nothing. I begged for the anesthesia, which in my case took too long for them to give to me.
I found my prenatal classes I took with my first baby very VERY helpful on this subject. They demonstrated everything. They even showed exactly how they do an epidural. I didn't have an epi but had a spinal for a c-section and don't even remember feeling it.
I'm also scared for that ftm but I'm absolutely getting it no doubt I just know your not supposed to move at all while there doing it but everyone is different
By the time you want one, you're pain is so bad you don't care. It burned for a few seconds and then I didn't feel it all. I guess it depends on your body and pain tolerance. And probably your anesthesiologist.
My first 2 were a breeze. My 3rd, not so well. I guy couldn't get it in the first 4 times. I was ready to turn around and punch him in the nuts. And every once and awhile I'll get sharp pains in that area (my last c-section was 5 yrs ago). I'm hoping this time around they know what they're doing.
Also after my last birth I developed a horrible headache in the hospital and it lasted about three weeks, something with the epidural had gone wrong and I couldn't even sit up or breastfeed my son. They hit something they shouldn't have and there was fluid leaking that caused the headache. Worst pain I've ever felt! I was supposed to get a "blood patch" but I didn't want them sticking any more needles in me, so luckily it healed itself after 3 weeks of misery.
Everybody is different with the experience of the epidural I sincerly like it cause it makes me dilate faster in about 2 hrs I'm fully dialed of course this happens to me nd that's why I say everyone is different I've had it 5 times nd I'm planing to get it with this pregnancy I've had no serious complications with it just the normal side affect which is my back hurts.... good luck don't be stressing about...
My back still hurts where I got my epidural. My last one was a few years ago.
I have had two, I personally thought it hurt really bad, and my back gets shooting pains from it now. Won't be getting one with this pregnancy!
I had 2 of them and never felt a thing.
