turning the baby

Hi all. I am 29wks. My baby is still breech. I know she may turn on her own but I wanted to get more information on an external version so I can make an informed decision. Have any of you had one preformed? What was the outcome? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

2 of my sisters have had successful external versions done- both said it was fine.  I asked them about it cuz I'm 33 weeks preg and my last apt they said he was breach.  One sister had a ton of extra water so they broke her water so that he wouldn't just float to a different position afterwards.  The other sister had hers at 37 weeks and it was successfully turned and she had her baby around her due date without complications.  I will definately get it done if my little guy is still not I position-- one of my sisters said that they only other way she found that worked was going swimming and doing a summersault in the water ( with that kid she was able to turn it that way without any external version) or you can do like a shallow dive and then suddenly turn straight nose down etc.  Both sisters tried the ironing baord thing and a bunch of other methods with no luck - and both said the external version was fine.  Good luck! I watched a few informational videos on youtube and it was kinda cool to watch

Thanks. I have read some home method of turning the baby. I will try those before anything else. But hopefully, she will just turn on her own and I do all this research for nothing. :-)

My 1st born was breach and I tried having her turned. This was almost 10 years ago so things might have changed since then but I won't ever do it again. My Dr waited till I was about 36 weeks. What he did was while the nurses helped hold my legs and body still the Dr externally located my daughters head, used both hands and with lots of pressure tried to force her to turn. He slowly moved her head down in hopes that she would flip. Unfortunately after about 2 hours it was still unsuccessful she kept flipping back up into breach position. My stomach was bruised for about a week as well as my Dr sprained both his wrists while trying. I ended up having a cesarean but then had a successful vbac with my 2nd and now I'm34 weeks pregnant with my 3rd who just happens to be breach. I personally am going to try the chiropractor. I've done a little research on it and it seems so much safer and healthier. I suggest you do research on both and do what feels right to you and you still have penty of time left for that baby to turn. Best of luck to you

Never had it done but saw it during nursing school...looked painful and rarely successful. Not to mention the baby can flip back. When my son was breech i spent alot of time on my hands and knees and eventually he turned. Good luck

A lot of people say the website spinningbaby.com has lots of good information on ways to get baby to turn. Like previous post said baby has a ton of time still. If you are closet to 36 weeks and baby hasn't turned I would start to worry. But I've also heard these the external version is extremely painful and has its risks. I would really read up on it. I had a friend whose baby turned at 36 weeks to head down and by the next week has flipped heads up again.. So they have a mind of their own.

Also look up the ironing board trick. You lay on it upside down head toward the ground feet toward the cealing and that's supposed to help.

I had that done - it isn't a fun experience but then 16 hours of labour isn't either. The prob for me was that because they don't engage, their head doesn't have much time to mould. My daughter went into distress after 2hrs of pushing and I had a Caesar anyway... If I had my time over I'd probably make the same decision because I wanted a go at vaginal delivery for my first but if this one is breech ill be opting for a Caesar...

I've heard that getting down on all fours chest to floor, bum in the air and sway your hips is a position that can help get baby to rotate naturally.
I know there's also something a chiropractor can do that is supposed to help. But like the previous poster said, you've got lots of time.
I know there are procedures they can do in the hospital to turn baby but apparently its not a very comfortable process...
Fingers crossed baby turns for you on their own :-)
