Decisions to make

I'm 36 weeks pregnant had ultrasound said baby is 7 lbs 7 oz saying he's measuring at 38 weeks. Have to have another ultrasound next week to see how much he weighs then and check more on growth. Doctor said we will have 3 options to discuss wait till labor starts on own but you could end up having 13 pound kid that's what he said or 2 be induced a week before due date or csection I nervous I just want to make the right decision this is my first baby. Leave me your experiences and or opinions please. Thanks

im a ftm so have no experience to go on. but ive also been told there is a chance i might need to get induced as well. which is definitely not my ideal birth plan. im only 29 wks so i dont think they'll start checking on babies size until im alittle further along. but if they say induction is the way to make natural labour possible for me instead of c section thats my plan. i rather that then surgery but im also planning on trying to naturally induce myself before i take the drug course as well as prepare my body as much as possible for the labour if it does have to be induced by drugs. lots of sex so the sperm can rippen my cervix which could help with dilation once induced. raspberry leaf tea to tone the uterus and acupuncture to also help with the above. i also think the 13 lb baby is not a very educated guess by your dr. like some said maybe a scare tactic. your baby will on average put on half a pound a week so even if you go full term i think the most your baby could be weighing in at is 10 lbs and that is a big healthy baby and like other mothers have mentioned it isn't impossible. Hey who knows you might go into natural labour on your own too thats always a possible out come. and another thing to consider maybe your due date is off alittle its just an estimate maybe your already closer to 37 wks and  your babies right on track. ive heard of some people being induced because they baby is getting too big and the baby that was supposed to 9 lbs turned out to 6lbs. so like some people have mentioned the ultrasounds arent the best indication ofbthe size of the baby. your mommy instinct is probably right so whatever feels like the best course of action for you is whats right! good luck!

I have had 3 babies and on my fourth...7 weeks left. My first two were nearly 9lbs each and my last was 10lb 8oz...no pain relief on any...doctor is saying this little lady will be close to 10/11lb....never once have a contemplated a c-section..but thats just me. I was cut on my first by an impatient nurse and tore on the other two but the healing wasnt that painful at all...and healed pretty quickly.

it is completely up to yourself there is no right or wrong decision its what is comfortable for you.....I agree with some of the ladies...our bodies are made for natural births...and I have read some others comments where they regretted getting c-sections, others swear by them so maybe its just a case of waiting till your next scan and deciding then for yourself.
But If it were me having to make the decision I would still go down the same route I went...naturally.

Best of Luck with whatever you choose and Congratulations ;-)

Ultrasounds are off I know because I got induced with my son because they didnt think he was getting enough nutrition and wss gaining enough weight. He was 7 pounds 9 ounces when born.  They were expecting him to only be about 6 pounds at most based on ultrasound. A friend of mine was told her baby was about 9 pounds and she was born 7. So you just never truely know.

Everyone has their own bodies and each reacts differently in different situations. All u have to do is trust urself. If u think u can do it naturally  go for it.

I'm in the same boat! Baby measured in at 8lbs on last scan. I was then told that I wouldn't be allowed to go past 39 weeks, but told because of medication that I'm on. Questioned doc only because this had never been mentioned. I wanted to do this birth naturally (epidural yes) but no induction or c-section. I feel like one of the previous posters that we have to take it as it comes, trust the professionals but our guts also. If ever a question don't be afraid to get clarification! We'll be meeting our little ones soon!

I think 13lbs may have been a slight exaggeration id say your looking at a 10lb baby if you choose to let nature take its course. Ive had 3 babies in total and all my growth scans were spot on with their predictions. My last 2 babies both weighed the same at 9lbs 2oz but both different births. I had to be induced with no3 and he was one of my 9lb 2 oz babies and i was told by two mw who witnessed the birth that i should of had a csection. I was induced which is more painful, he wasnt ready and i wasnt dilating and they were forcing my cervix over his head during internals and it just went wrong. People seem very against inductions n csections but sometimes its for the best. Id say if they wanna take him a little early id let them. Some people handle big babies some women dont. Your dr knows best just listen to them and dont let no one judge you or make the decision for you its your choice. Good luck xx

Wow, 13lbs?? My son was born at 35wks and was 7lbs2oz.  Dr said he probably would have been close to 10lbs if I'd gone full term.

Maybe just play it by ear a week at a time and see how you and baby are doing. You don't HAVE to decide at your next appointment.

I think wait one week to get induce before due date sounds reasonable.

I now of people who have delivered 12 -13 pounds babies naturally. No meds or anything. I personally delivered a 8 pound baby completely naturally.. Ultrasounds are off a lot of the time I was told my first was gonna be over 10 pounds. Nope he was only 7. Don't let the Dr or the above comment scare you saying you will never be the same down there.. This is what a woman's body is made for.. Birth is a completely natural thing and your body can handle more than you think it can.. Best of luck to you

Those ultrasounds are always off. I had a 9 lb natural birth.  Go with your gut.  Baby will come when ready.

It seems unlikely the baby would put on 5 more pounds in 4 weeks, both of my babies were big, both vaginal, c section is surgery, longer healing time, big decision, I would get a second credible medical opinion

I had a 9 lb 4 Oz baby naturally,  no tearing or anything.  I say go with what your gut. Induction is a harder labor and the contractions are a lot more painful.

What i cn say is that follow the doctors advice,he knows better and got plenty of experience. Just bcoz others did it doesnt mean you can or vice versa. Ask the doctor to advise you on what to do and go with it...

Ignore above comment about not being able to handle a 9 lb baby with an epideral. Everyone is different and there's no way to know how you will handle labor pain. I had an 8lb baby, with pitocin and no epideral and no birth pool and I survived. If your Dr. Is pressuring you to schedual a section or induce you based on baby's ESTIMATED weight I would run far away and fast. There's no way to know exactly how much a baby weighs by ultrasound. Sounds like a scare tactic to me to get you to do something that's more convenient for him

some times ultrasound measurements can be off. honestly, its your body and you know better about how the baby feels inside of you. its up to you. just think about it! reminder, woman have been naturally giving birth for centuries, not knowing a thing about the baby and they're very healthy.
