I spent over a month in the hospital last summer for 2 brain surgeries (not to mention 2 previous c-sections) and had to have the iv changed every 3 days.....I find that the outside of your forearm is the most comfortable, lasted the longest and least amount of pain, it's also a good spot for those of us that don't bleed well. With this upcoming c-section I plan on requesting it to go on the outside of my arm again!

Yes it does lol i hate them. First time i went to the hospital because of bleeding in my 26 weeks it took four nurses to "play around" in both my wrists before finally putting it in my elbow. Now i know better. My advice, have them do it in your hand that you don't use (in my left because I'm right handed) the lady asset l&d put it on top but under the wrist ifyou can picture that with no problems, and i get llidocaine shot first because then numbs the spot there about to "play" in. It helps knowing what you want so they can't guess what's good for you.

I've had both hand and arm crease. I was induced and had the one in back of my hand although when i went into full blown labour it was knocked out during the pushing so I wouldn't recommend it in hand during labour as was very uncomfortable having it half hanging out and bleeding straight after delivery. I had a d & c and needed fluid once and they did it in my arm bend which was so much better although as someone said once babies arrived cradling a baby with it in may be uncomfortable also. Another place I've had one before was on the side of my hand almost on my thumb and that didn't bug me at all for some reason :)

I have deep set veins so I have to have an iv in the top of my hand and it hurt for a few seconds but then you barely notice it until they remove it...

I had one in my hand with my first and it was awful!   Going in wasn't bad but after a day, OMG, it hurt so bad.  With my second, I made them put it in my elbow crease.(sorry, not sure how to describe that area:)
