I haven't tried castor oil but I did do primrose oil. I starred with it when I was 34 weeks and at 39 weeks I gave birth to a health baby boy. My midwife told me about it.

You really are better off letting nature take it's course and go into labor on your own. The baby actually produces a hormone that triggers your body to go into labor. Plus labor is hard enough without risking giving yourself diarrhea,  vomiting and dehydration.

You need to let the baby get full term at 38 weeks the lungs can still be weak and not well developed. Don't trust the internet for things like induction and such. Talk to your Dr first and see what he/she says first. There is a lot of stuff out there that can cause a lot of issues. I almost took Black Cohash with my first and I'm glad I didn't cause in the case of needing a csection it has a tendency to cause massive bleeding and clotting issues and low and behold I ended up in a csection. if u want to try to help the process just stick to the normal natural things like intercourse and walking.

Katieimmel you are correct that there castor oil does not cross the placenta however its the stress that's put on baby that causes the to pass a bm. It doesn't happen to everyone, but castor oil is first and foremost a laxative. Its meant to irritate the lower GI tract in order to help pass stool. This irritation, if great enough, can cause the baby to be under stress and more likely to pass meconium while in utero

I'm right there with you. I have been reading up on castor oil. I heard that it can cause a bm... but also research shows that it doesn't pass the placenta, so the bm is more than likely because of being passed due.

You should just wait. Castor oil is gonna make you have the runs and awful cramps, and your baby can have a BM in utero. Happened to me. Not worth it.
